The feds don't pay anything. The fed government writes a check, it is the goose that the federal debt poop flows through.

Some day in the future some poor schmuck is going to ask the people who are living through this (rhetorically, of course), "was all of this worth it?" That will happen after the federal debt tower of babel collapses.
