Tucker Carlson’s six years on Fox News seem to have artificially extended the life, and relevance, of cable news itself. While he was there, the top-rated host in the medium brought in an entirely new audience: young people, especially young men. He not only drew the largest number of viewers in the coveted 25-54 demographic, he took in the top rank for Democrats in that age group too.
But even Carlson knew cable news was a dying model, one that had lasted longer than anyone expected, as he told me when I spoke to him for my upcoming book, Tucker.
“I really do think the cable news business has a limited future,” Carlson said, two weeks after his show was abruptly pulled off the air. “It’s too obviously controlled. It’s like Google — it’s just become too clear that there’s a certain selection of stories that are allowed, and a very thick file of stories that are not allowed. And I think people have come to understand that, and it’s just not sustainable.”
If Fox News’s ratings are anything to go by, then Carlson’s departure might help speed up that demise. For millions of frustrated viewers, he was the reason they kept watching Fox News. To a cynical audience, his presence was a saving grace: if NewsCorp let him speak, and speak so freely, they can’t be that bad, they thought.
That’s done now. The backlash against Fox after it pulled the plug on Carlson has made the mountains of free Bud Light piling up in a Piggy Wiggly parking lot look quaint by comparison: total Fox viewership is down nearly 40 percent from the same time last year, and has tanked a whopping 62 percent in the key demographic.
What Carlson gave his viewers that no one else could...

When BOR left, there weren’t good viable options to cable news. Now there are BETTER ones, ref. the fact that Tucker pulled 3 million viewers on FNC vs. > 100 million on Twitter.
Fox is screwed long-term, because the handwriting is on the wall - the cable news channel business model is at end-of-life.
Tucker killed Fox by demonstrating enough actual journalism they had no recourse but to pull his show off, sort of like the guy who cuts his arm off to escape from a burning wreck only to die anyway, just a different way.
Fox News has become CNN Light. They jumped on the Democrat Bandwagon —I hope they like the ride as they clean house to get rid of any MAGA thinkers. The field is open for a new Cable Network—and it will make money!
Here is their gimmick and it’s really obvious now because it’s pretty much all the time. They consistently play talking points of KJP, Rachel Maddow, Nicole Wallace, Jake Tapper etc. and then laugh and joke about the comments. All of them do it, but Laura and Sean are the worst. WHY GIVE THEM AN AUDIENCE?
Fox lost me on election night 2020. Tucker never lost me.
I used to watch Gutfeld, but no longer. The main reason, interestingly enough, is that I have a new litmus test: If you refer to a tranny by anything other than their biological sex, then I consider you a phony immoral Conservative. Gutfeld and his cohorts fail that test.
I can’t believe people still are connected to the wires that come from networks. I have to specifically pay for Fox to see it. I could always wait a few hours to watch Tucker for free. Are people this stupid? It isn’t like their programming goes stale. It plays the same tomorrow as it does today. The same goes for nearly every show. My wife likes CBS content, there is Paramount Plus. It is the same with everything. I pay $60 a month for the internet, and everything flows from there.
His last twitter podcast was all about Joe Biden being a dic..
Even brought up him mistaking his daughter for his wife.
