A California man who was caught on video pummeling a sheriff's deputy and shooting at her with her own gun in 2019 was found not guilty of attempted murder and other charges by a jury, with the victim saying the decision sets a bad precedent for law enforcement.
Former San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputy Meagan McCarthy was the closest law enforcement officer when a frantic 911 call came in from a mother, pleading with dispatch for help and for someone to save her from her own son. McCarthy rushed to the home and saw a man with "clenched fists" who came outside and then made a "bee-line" in her direction as she got out of her patrol vehicle. Behind him was his mother, with a knife in her hand and still on the phone with dispatch.

"The issue was, was the initial detention of Mr. Young legal?" he told the station. "If it's not, then he's not guilty. ... He could punch her 100 times, and it wouldn't matter."

“So, if someone illicitly pats you down, you have the right to punch them 100 times, and potentially kill them? Proportional response?”
Yes.
Just because someone wears a costume with a shiny talisman on their chest doesn’t grant them license to violate anyone else’s rights. And when they are wrong the people have a right if not an OBLIGATION to defend themselves.
Dat po baby dindo nuffin’...not guilty...
Something we might agree on? *gasp!*
“Something we might agree on? *gasp!*”
I’ll mark this auspicious day on my calendar! (-;
And when they are wrong the people have a right if not an OBLIGATION to defend themselves.
I agree people have a right to defend themselves, but isn’t it a matter or proportional response? You can really kill someone over something minor? It doesn’t seem like this guy’s life was in danger.
I’d hit that....
San Berdoo.
If a cop is on trial for shooting/killing a POC, I am now an automatic not guilty if I am on the jury. Facts don’t matter anymore.
I wonder what makes a woman like that go into law enforcement, especially in some of the dicier areas. All those silly movies and shows that depict skinny super models beating up men have done their job, I guess.
I am no longer reflexively pro-police. However, you are correct here. Any self-defense must be proportional to the threat. You cannot legally or morally use deadly force just because someone touched you.
That jury disagreed. I’m amazed by that. But then again, it’s California.
Crazy is the norm there.
It’s Kaliphornia of course.
Personally, I think this lawyer and judge need a nighttime visit for a ‘Tune Up’. And this Ari Young scumbag needs to vanish into the night and fog along with some of the jury.
The Deputy’s should all resign in protest. Maybe this guy will show up at one of the jurors homes.
This woman was hired to protect the public?
I’m told by law enforcement professionals that the public would be shocked if it was revealed how many female police officers have had their weapons taken from them.
“It doesn’t seem like this guy’s life was in danger.”
Hate to say but every encounter anyone has with law enforcement is a life-threatening encounter. You do not know their state of mind and far too many of them are abusing steroids, they’re prone to violence, they’re prone to enjoying violence, and some of them even relish the opportunity to kill people.
Cops mistake people for criminals all the time and when they do that innocent person is in jeopardy for their life and liberty.
The experiment of modern policing that started in the 1800’s has morphed into the standing army that our Founding Fathers warned us about.
The solution is to restore Constitutional Carry and stop persecuting individuals who defend their lives and property from criminals. I’d also recommend reinstating the death penalty for those convicted of murder, kidnap, armed robbery, car theft, burglary, and other high crimes.
Purging law enforcement of individuals who hold the Constitution in contempt is a fine place to start.

It was a “HUNG JURY” on the three charges and NOT a verdict of not guilty. It was simply a case of JURY NULLIFICATION by one or more of the jurors.
Happens not rarely in Baltimore.
Wow! The guy in this case was a mental patient with a history of violence. I can’t even tell you how many times that my crews and I responded to dicey domestic violence situations. I can’t tell you how many times I was shoved, punched, and kicked when just trying to help. I also had a hand gun pointed at me point blank and the trigger pulled repeatedly. Fortunately, he had put the bullets in the magazine backwards.
The only thing that you have likely done to help in horrible situations is sit on your big fat ass and let others try to take care of them. Actually, helping someone elde is beneath you, isn’t it? And then when a law enforcement officer or firefighter is killed or injured you are all about defending the psycho. Yes, you sure have our backs!!!
But believe me if you were in a situation with someone punching or kicking you senseless or chasing you down the street with a knife or a gun then you would be hoping for someone wearing “a costume with a shiny talisman on their chest” You are a pathetic ignorant piece of work on pretty much every subject that I have seen you comment on, the fact that Bulwyf agrees with you shows that you are not the only ignorant fool here.
Serve on jury duty in Southern California just once and you’ll view the anti-white racism.
