Walt Nauta, a personal aide to Donald Trump, was indicted alongside the former Republican president on Thursday, Trump said on his social media network on Friday.
Nauta, a former military valet, worked for Trump at the White House before accompanying the former president to work for him at his Florida resort.
The charges were brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith, who was appointed to oversee both the investigation into Trump's retention of classified records and a separate probe into efforts to overturn Trump's defeat in the 2020 presidential election.
A spokesperson for Smith's office could not be immediately reached for comment. The Wall Street Journal and CNN first reported the indictment citing unnamed sources.
Nauta's lawyer Stanley Woodward declined to comment.
The charges come after Trump's legal team was notified in recent days that he could face potential criminal charges in the classified documents case.
Nauta reportedly helped to move cardboard boxes at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate which contained documents and other mementos from Trump's time as president.
Nauta initially told investigators he did not know whether Trump had retained classified records, according to media reports, but later said he had moved some of the boxes.
The Justice Department later subpoenaed surveillance footage from Mar-a-Lago which corroborated that boxes had been moved, raising suspicions about possible obstruction of justice.

It’s just so suspicious with Nauta being indicted and the attorneys quitting. Very confusing situation. But I guess that’s part of the plan by Garland and Xiden.

The timing of the attorneys quitting is not good. Perhaps they fear continuing to represent Trump will result in loss of clients today and in the future.
But did he know what was in the boxes?
Could the attorneys’ resignation have anything to do with the fact that the case is in FL instead of Washington DC?? I think the attorney taking over now is skilled in handling “white collar” cases......maybe not drama, just a change needed to be made due to the location of the proceedings??
They didn’t quit. They were let go because Trump needed a new team for what lies ahead.

Not really. If the attorneys provided legal advice to Nauta and/or engaged in protected, attorney-client communications -- even the absence of a formal attorney-client relationship -- then they are not allowed under the rules of ethics to represent either Trump or Nauta because of the potential conflict of interest.

President Trump knew nothing of this. in fact, he told me to declassify everything in the boxes.

A President that won the Electoral College by 520-17 was forced to resign from office or he would’ve been removed from office.
We’ve had multiple Republicans administrations since the Nixon take out, yet they let the corrupt democrat law system remain intact.
