I don’t believe that Ron DeSantis did resign from the office of Governor. A special clause was written into the law that allows the governor, and only the governor, to run for another office, and not have to resign, unlike every other statewide office in Florida.
AFAIK, Ron is still Governor. Just a little failsafe built into the most recent action of the Florida State legislature.
This guy wrote a law that says he doesn’t have to do his job. Must be great to be King.
Exceptions to the current rule were last expanded in 2018. Before then, candidates for president and vice president were exempt from resign-to-run laws altogether.
No special law or amendment had to be passed for him to remain as governor while running for president or vice-president. Candidates for President and Vice President were already exempt before 2018, but the qualifying period wasn't clarified until this legislation.
I hope my many friends and relatives are pleased.
I know they loved him for what he was doing.
I know I would be disappointed in his decision.
