And what evidence is there that these fires are "unprecendentes"? The 1825 Miramichi fire in Northern New Brunswick killed 160 to 300 people and burned 1,000,000 to 2,000,000 hectares (2,500,000 to 4,900,000 acres). The current Nova Scotia fires have burned in excess of 24,000 hectares (59,000 acres). It is between one-fortieth to one-eightieth as large as a Canadian fire in 1825! There have been dozens of fires since that were much larger than the current Nova Scotia fires.
