I can say one good thing about Woodhead Wilson ... he didn’t have an eating disorder.

Christie has already walked smack dab into one Rake:
Why use your Presidential Run press conference to criticize the Father of our Country? Who’s talking about Woodrow Wilson, other than Chris? Two unforced errors so far, and this Horse has barely left the gate.
Trump or DeSantis are going to use that in one of their rally speeches, presuming that Chris still has political legs enough to last till the rallies.

Don’t rely on Wikipedia. It was the office of the Commissioner of Internal Revenue that was established in 1862, and that expired in 1872. The Bureau of Internal Revenue was created in 1913 concurrent with the 16th Amendment, which was Wilson’s implementation of the second plank of communism; the name of this office was changed to the Internal Revenue Service in 1953, under Eisenhower.

Holy moly! Woodhead should have been shot for saying that.

I’m all for digging him up now and shooting him for it.

Wilson was more of a paternalistic racist.

I’m not. I remember it was Lincoln that signed the law, and the tax was what expired in 1872. The Supreme Court went back and forth on income tax. But the Sixteenth Amendment was ratified in February 2013, abd Wilson wasn’t sworn in until March 4th, 2013, so, as much as we want, we can’t really blame that on him, including the expansion of the IRS, can we?

Germamy was no more a dictatorship in 1914 than France. Aistria with its famously feared secret police was on a par with the Allies’ Russia.

True. I think he got his World Wars mixed up. But hey, leave him alone. He’s on a roll.

Aside from the dubious “ratification” of the amendment in question, Wilson did campaign on “tariff reform”, that being the primary method of funding the federal government until the amendment’s advent (enforcement). And the amendment removed apportionment with respect to income tax and established its permanency.

Wilson signed the Revenue Act of 1913, which permanently established the income tax.

I don’t want to take blame away from prior “progressives” such as Taft, mind you; he bears a large part.

Christie probably jumped in the race to ensure Trump is nominated.

***********

Trump will have multiple stalking horses in the 2024 field....it’s a done deal.
Trump defeating that kid from Florida, will be like taking candy from a baby.
The emotion driven ideologues on Free Republic don’t know squat about their own country or the history of their country.

If the Establishment of the United States wants Trump vs Biden in 2024, that will be the choice.

If they want Biden to win, they’ll rig it for Biden.
If they want Trump to win, they’ll rig it for Trump.

My position is it’ll be rigged against Biden/Harris because Biden belongs in a nursing home getting care and Harris is a stupid person.

Trump is neither of those things. He isn’t stupid like Harris or nursing home material like Biden.

Krikeys. Woodrow Wilson was probably our worst President. His damage is incalculable. He allowed the creation of the Federal Income tax, and the IRS. His actions led to the rise of the Soviet Union and the rise of Adolf Hitler. Had he insisted on following his campaign promises and kept the US out of WWI, and made it clear he was going to do so, the combatants would have settled a peace that wouldn’t have humiliated Germany and provided a springboard for Hitler.
Christie is apparently a war mongerer.

Christie’s entry into the race is not significant enough to effect Trump one way or the other. If it helps Trump, what are we talking about here? A 1 or 2 percent boost? Certainly not enough to make a deal over.

Chris Christie just threw George Washington under the bus to praise… Woodrow Wilson, a Democrat.

Christie would have to first dig up George Washington before he could throw him anywhere.

It’s a money grab.

Porky knows he’s not a viable candidate.

This is just an attempt to grab some big bucks in the form of campaign donations.

Wait, his grasp of history is astonishingly bad. The purpose of entering WWI was not to stop dictatorships, WWI caused dictatorships.
