Wait, wut?
Sounds like the majority agree with my truthful assessment of you. What you clearly don’t have a clue about is social security is saving us money. If we didn’t have it, the welfare would go up extremely high. This country will not allow people to go hungry or penniless at the numbers you hope for.
And you’ll support that person from the time he loses every dime until the grave. Congratulations! Welfare is real.
“Social security is theft by government.”
That is true—but you have not thought through all the implications.
Imagine that you lived all your life in Al Capone’s organized crime territory.
Money was extorted from you all your life.
The question is—are you entitled to get your money back from Al—even though you know the only way Al gets the money is to steal it from somebody else?
My attitude—get everything from Al you can get—Al is the crook—everybody else is just another victim.
so my 45 yrs of working and paying SS means nothing then?
I dont disagree with the first part of that asshole reply.
It is the latter part that pisses me off. If I ever got face to face with that little bastard.
And the owners of this site wonder why they cant meet funding..
I’m not saying you’re wrong to expect money back, totally justified, and I agree. The money was taken by force and should be returned, plus inflation. Disagree though on SS not being socialist. It is a retirement service provided by the government. There isn’t one private aspect to it. It is even called “Social Security”, there is no market functioning with it whatsoever.
I hear you. Just give me what I paid in and I’ll go my way. Same with Medicare.
OTHERWISE just keep mailing it to me.
You do you disagree with whom?
I didn't say Social Security wasn't socialism.
I said "wanting one's/my investment back" isn't socialism.
There's a difference.
It is not an “investment” when a gun is pointed at your head.
It is extortion.
What you want is you extorted money back.
Can we have the money back that was withheld from our pay without our permission?
15.6% of all wages earned in the United States, are paid into Social Security and Medicare. If you are self-employed, you pay the full 15.6% if you weren’t employed by a W-2 employer, the employer pays half of that for you, but it still adds up to 15.6% of your wages. Up to a certain amount which is 250,000 or somesuch. I don’t know about you, but I think 15.6% is a huge tax to be put on people and we have no choice about it. If we don’t pay that 15.6%, we will go to jail because the new 87000 IRS agents will find you.
Now after spending 40 or 50 years, paying 15.6% of your income into Social Security would you be happy if someone with your attitude told you to go work in the fields instead of collecting what you paid in? If you could invest that 15.6% yourself it would be much more of a viable income for you in retirement but you are not allowed to do that. You must pay your 15.6% every paycheck, rain, shine snow sleet…
Get yourself some education so you can quit saying stupid things
Yes. I was being polite.
Interesting history of FICA rates - from 1955, the year AFTER I started contributing in my first job..I’m not sure what the “family-four” means as FICA wasn’t deducted based on the tax WH factor!!??

Call the nut house, there’s a Ron Paul nut job on the loose.
Yeah, so what? Nothing new about this.
Got it, I misread it, apologies.
Galveston, TX, opted out, and it created many, many people with far more retirement $$. Their own investments far outweighed any “payback” from the Government.
As long as we’re sending billions to Ukraine, it’s going to be a tough sell to convince people who have paid in to give up their SS payments.
As an aside, I make the same mistake all the time.;-)
