Yes, it’s funny. That person whoever it is is uninformed. I started out working in the fields when I was 12 years old. I worked work study during school, high school and college and they took FICA out of that. When I was in my 30s, I became self-employed and very aware of the 15.6% that you cannot negotiate.
Ironically I know the only answer to try and earn extra money to scrape by during trying times like Bidenflation is to try and find some kind of under the counter job, such as working in the fields! Lol. But don’t tell those Biden enforcement officers from the IRS.😊
This is a thread about social security not welfare, food stamps or healthcare so I did not mention any of those things. However, all of them are also theft.
Concerning government being the problem, it is the people who elect the government in the US so the people who elect government that put in place or perpetuate socialist programs are to blame, including the old people.
Listen, if you say stupid things, you have to expect someone to attempt to correct you for saying these things or to try to educate you. It is not about hate.

Barf alert is right. Anybody with half-a-brain knows that if you're a hard-working, law-abiding American citizen, the government doesn't give you anything for free, even your own money they stole all those years to prop up the social security system...and, you still have to pay Federal taxes on it each month you get a check. And when you die, if you don't make it through the very last day of the month, you won't get a check for any of the days you were still breathing.
What I wrote was not stupid. It may have been insensitive but getting rid of socialist programs is something this country must do else go bankrupt and then we all lose.

Thanks for that info. I never had a 401k, nor ever owned any property, so I’ve haven’t had to deal with any of that. It sucks that the people who do, will get hammered with taxes, and disqualified for stimulus checks because of it. I had my State Pension that I contributed to for over 30 years, and Social Security which I paid into from the time I began working at 16. Same thing with Medicare. I paid into it since its inception, and will have to continue to pay for it until I die.

Yes. Those first people who received benefits got something like 50X what they paid in. The payout ratio has gone down and down and down...I suspect I’ll get 0.5X by the time I croak.
At 56 filled DSSI, took 4 years to get it, my retirement age would be 66, but was shoved on SS at 65. And make less than average. They add my husband’s to mine and I NEVER quality. We both pay Fed Income Tax on both. He worked since he was 16. Now 83 next month.
Obumber took the SS Trust fund and put it into the General Fun so he could steal out of it, otherwise, it would still be solvent, even with the $65 B Medicare fraud.
It shouldn’t be a surprise. I thought everybody knew that a 401k and a 403b only DEFERRED your income tax payments until you start drawing it down. They don’t eliminate your tax liability. It should only be a surprise to those who don’t pay any attention at all to personal financial planning.
