A federal judge in Tennessee has ruled that a state law limiting public drag show performances represented an “unconstitutional restriction on the freedom of speech.”

McConnell judge.
The governor should say he will permit drag shows on federal land within the borders of Tennessee.
And I’ll bet twenty years ago a judge in this position that had a drag queen before him/her that was charged with performing their act in an elementary school would have sentenced that person to 20 years in prison.
The law as written is unconstitutionally vague and overbroad. This often happens when the legislature is reacting to an emotional exigency.
“Trump-appointed federal judge rules Tennessee’s anti-drag show law is ‘unconstitutional’”
I understand the free speech aspect of this ruling but drag shows are not a sign of a healthy society. Transgenderism and other forms of depravity are a sign of a sick society.

The law was obviously written wrong.
There is a little known Errata page to the Constitution which states, in part, “Does not apply to people we don’t like.” *** and “The 2nd Amendment doesn’t apply to bumpstocks”
Is there another source than CNN?
Unless it specifies kids and underage, he’s probably correct
Or the legislature is giving a court a perfect reason to kill it.
Based on the limited information at the link, I’d say that the judge’s ruling is correct. The law was poorly drafted and undertook to ban ALL drag shows and shows that might harm minor children. That violates the first amendment rights of adults, and the “might harm children” standard can be applied to almost anything (circus clowns scare some children thus “harming” them — must we outlaw circuses for everyone? The arguments over what constitutes harm would be endless and mostly subjective. This made the law overbroad and unenforceable).
The correct approach is to outlaw allowing children below a specified age to see, hear, or participate in sexually-oriented material, exhibitions, and performances, etc. Definitions of what constitutes “sexually-oriented” already exist. Simply make the same laws that already prohibit admitting children to “heterosexual” strip and sex shows apply to drag queen performances. This leaves adults free to “express themselves” by choosing to perform in or view drag shows, just as they can with the strip and exotic dance shows that have been around for ages.
Since legislators are almost all lawyers, you have to wonder whether they are incompetent or if they screw up on purpose so they can bask in righteous anger when their laws are overturned.
I wonder how Uncle Miltie, Flip Wilson, Tom Hanks & Tootsie would fare today in Tennessee or Florida?
The question will be determined on the 1st and 14th Amendments.
Is there a 1st Amendment Right to dress in a certain manner and present yourself in a manner that may be that may be interpreted as overtly sexual?
Are the server at Hooter’s and a server dressed in drag similarly situated under the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment?
A court could go either way on those questions.
And then left him out to dry when the election was stolen
If it’s a ruling we like, credit goes to President Trump.
If it’s a ruling we don’t like, the credit goes to President McConnell.
well.. Trump was the first president to say LGBTQ in a state of the union speech.
So I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise, Trump is not like DeSantis on this issue.
No, it’s actually, let’s look at the big picture. If you choose to judge people only by their failures, then everyone’s a failure, including DeSantis. If you choose to judge people only by their successes, then they’re all successful.
Trump is the first president to impose a ban on trans people from serving in the military. He also has been a vocal critic of men in women’s sports. If he’s not like DeSantis on this issue, then that doesn’t reflect very well on DeSantis.
All the judges were trump appointed, Mitch approved.
People here forget that.
