“We’ve got a long last name. European name, Steinhauser. There’s been some confusion over your last name and the pronunciation and I’m just wondering to correct the record, what is it?” Fox News’s Paul Steinhauser asked DeSantis on Thursday.
“Oh, it’s ridiculous. These stupid things. Listen, the way to pronounce my last name — winner,” DeSantis told Steinhauser.

The largest win in Florida history. That a win.
Ron is nowhere near ready for prime time. He’s extremely thin skinned, not quick on his feet, and even a brain addled Biden will get under his skin in a debate and make him look like a bratty child. I’ve never seen a politician commit political suicide as willingly as Rob.
he just told us how to pronounce his name: it’s ridiculous.
To win the Chicken Dinner he’s gonna have to beat the Bad Orange Man.
Head-to-head, far from being Rob Pierre Delecto Winner, Ron DeSantis looks and sounds as if he will surely lose to Trump.
Perhaps it is true what they are saying—that DeSantis intends to take over leadership of the race for the Pubbie POTUS nomination once Trump becomes so deeply embroiled in civil and criminal courts from here to Timbuktu that the voting Pubbie public gets spooked and chooses to “move on”. That’s a cynical way to position oneself politically, but, hey, politics ain’t beanbag, and DeSantis is wasn’t ever going to be the one Trump called for bail money.
I see a lot of Trump Trolls on this thread. Seems many people are scared of a guy who gave an excellent response to a silly question that garnered too much attention based upon Kamala’s voiced concern.
Who knows.
The next successful Republican ticket for POTUS/VPOTUS may well end up being Jenner/Mulvaney.
Campaign slogan: If you can’t beat ‘em, join us. Or something.
Dude, the guy just asked for your name. Fighting like Trump when you’re not attacked like Trump is pretty silly to me.
OMG what a loser comment. Cringeworthy.
Rob Deezaster has lived in a bubble down in Florida. The local Democrats are totally incompetent and so he never really had to be quick and charming.
This response is Kamala tier. He’s finished himself with this I think.
Finally, a sane post to this thread. Stupid bickering about name pronunciation? The forum has degenerated tremendously. The ‘24 election will run more people away than the last two presidential elections. Circular firing squad comes to mind.
Ron will need to realize handling the occasional dumb, leading or seemingly idiotic question is a part of live action politics. He doesn’t need to become stopped in his tracks or over think each one, but receiving silly questions is part of the territory.
Sometimes its baiting, just to provoke a flustered response from the candidate. Imagine being the reporter who asks a question of Mike Pence and getting Pence so angry that he tells the reporter to “F*** Off!”. That would temporarily “break the internet”.
It wasn't an excellent response. And it wasn't a silly question -- it was a LOADED question.
If someone asked me how to pronounce my name, I would just answer the question directly. Why couldn't DeSantis do this?
I think the name Steinhauser is German, meaning something like “Brick House”, you know, like that Comodores song.
I prefer Trump to win the nomination but this is a non-issue. My surname has two perfectly acceptable pronunciations and I use either one without giving it a thought.
Journalists constantly ask people how to pronounce their names. Also true of people who introduce speakers. Ronda should be used to that by now and come up with a definitive answer.
The journalist asked the question to undermine DeSantis. I am sure there are video clips out there with DeSantis pronouncing his name in different ways — which makes him look like a manicured phony, like down in Kamala Harris territory.
You are a clown. This is garbage.
The more you get to know DeSantis, the less you like him.
I jokingly commented in a post on this subject yesterday, about how the cover up always ends up being worse than the crime, come clean DeSantis, what are you trying to hide, etc. It all seemed like a nothingburger, and maybe it still is. But the fact that he won’t answer a simple question about it could end up being a big deal.
Does he not have a simple answer? Or is he just being unnecessarily petty in not wanting to respond? Either way it’s the kind of thing that makes you wonder about what else he’s hiding. Is this the way he’s always going to respond when an unscripted question comes up for which he doesn’t have a prepared answer? Does he need to go back and speak to his campaign staff before deciding how to answer what should be an easy question to answer?
If he’s unforthcoming on something so minor as this, does that bode well for his transparency on more important issues?
