Russia was the world's largest gas exporter until February 24, when Moscow invaded Ukraine, shaking global energy markets and forcing Europe to end its dependence on Russian fossil fuels.
Europe imposed sanctions on Russia, which Turkey has refused to apply. Since the war began, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has sought to play a mediating role in the conflict, supplying weapons to Kyiv while maintaining close relations with President Vladimir Putin.
In response, Putin proposed in October to make Turkey a hub for Russian gas deliveries as an alternative supply route to Europe — a plan backed by Erdogan. But what Putin has in mind is not clear, so far.

“Russia was the world’s largest gas exporter until February 24, when Moscow invaded Ukraine”
Sounds like the report cut class on Brainwashing Day, or he would have said “...when PUTIN invaded Ukraine” (rather than “when Moscow invaded Ukraine”) as it is necessary to Identify, Isolate, and Demonize a single person in order to push the cause forward.
No doubt his bosses will have a talk with him.
“Another blow to the ineffective Western sanctions.”
More than that, Russia is trying to come up with routes for pipelines that won’t get blown up by the West, or held hostage by the West, and using Turkey seems to best for that.
turkey was given the opportunity and turned it down
Russia was
Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia are
With the US and Ukies planning to blow up the Russian/Turk pipeline ( like Nordstream) , I will have a good laugh when Turkey pulls out of NATO….which will be followed most likely by Hungary, Greece?….the EU is showing cracks.
Stay tuned.
Why would they not. We are acting crazy about energy/oil

Turkey is not only cooperating with enforcing sanctions on Russia, they are one of the key enforcers of those sanctions. Russia can sell all the oil it wants to Turkey, at the sanction rate. No matter how much Turkey buys, Russia still loses money.
—”Another blow to the ineffective Western sanctions.”
Because the actions are working Russia has few places to sell its natural gas.
The agreement with Russia’s best buddy China on the Power of Siberia 2 natural gas pipeline is ‘practically’ finalized.
In fact, it has been ‘practically’ finalized for some time, why is that? And Russia is now paid in yuan by China, perhaps slightly better than the difficult-to-spend rupees they take from India.
NB: Russia previously demanded all sales to be in rubles.
Why did that change?
Right now China and India are purchasing all the Russian oil they can get at below-market prices.
Then resell it at market price, clever bastards, arbitrage!
And that in turn keeps prices down, the more they flood the market the cheaper Russia has to sell.
Check out what the re-elected president of Turkey is saying today. Is Turkey buying Russian gas today? Is Turkey paying for Russian gas in roubles? Is Turkey complying with Western sanctions on Russian gas? Is this post about Turkey buying and transporting Russian gas? Nice try, work on your effort.
Turkey wants Russia weakened so they can start pursuing rebuilding their former empire.
—”Looking at slightly more recent articles will put this into perspective.”
Unmentioned in the article is the timeframe/costs to build the pipeline and the needed additional infrastructure.
Russia is spending every ruble they have on weapons production and China would only lend to them in exchange for Mongolia being made whole.
The Turk economy is so screwed up no one will lend to them.
Also if Erdoğan makes an unwavering move to one side he loses any benefits from the other side.
In the years needed to build the pipeline, the Russian Federation will be dust in the wind and the natural gas comes from the Stans, who have long been unhappy with the return on their gas production.
The pipeline to Turkey is possible, not probable.
A pipe dream.
—” Is Turkey paying for Russian gas in roubles?”
NOT EXACTLY.
Ruble-frugal!
In fact, they are not paying at all.

—”Turkey wants Russia weakened so they can start pursuing rebuilding their former empire.”
A forgotten angle.
Erdoğan believes his Muslim pals will do the heavy lifting and he also knows that Putin simply uses the Muslims for his personal ends.
Putin also believes he is destined to become a master of the universe.
So many daydream believers.
Edrogan is a Neo-Ottoman Islamist! His dream is to connect with his ancestral brethren in Turkmenistan. He needs Russia to fall apart so he can extend his influence into Central Asia.
They are paying in rubles, they are getting it on credit, they are selling the ability to undercut NATO to the Russians in deferred payments or even no payments. They are just getting started in allowing the Russians to work around the effect the Western sanctions are having or have had on Russia. Unfortunately, for the EU no one is working around the devastating effects the Western sanctions on Russian gas is having on the citizens of the EU.
—”They are paying in rubles, they are getting it on credit, they are selling the ability to undercut NATO to the Russians in deferred payments or even no payments”
Turkey’s economy is in shambles because Erdoğan demanded the interest rate be 8.5% when it was 19% and increasing.
Then along came a massive earthquake that exposed the massive corruption in Turkey’s building inspections.
See if you can buy a car on the NO PAYMENTS plan and you have zero credit/broke and only 8.5% or less.
And you believe they are going to build an 800-mile pipeline????
Why not invest in the ruble? With the Russians doing so well?
If you should happen to get any return you can spend it inside Russia on your next visit.
BUT THEY MAY ENLIST YOU IN THE RUSSIAN ARMY.
—” He needs Russia to fall apart so he can extend his influence into Central Asia.”
A BIG YES!
Still many believe Putin and Erdoğan and Xi and Lukashenko(?still alive?)... are best buddies.
Those are some fine tangents you’ve ran off on. Good luck with your attention deficit disorder.
With your extensive knowledge of the proposed Russia to Turkey pipeline, tell us how it will be financed.
