Sununu: Trump Did Not Drain the Swamp or Secure the Border

Governor Chris Sununu (R-NH) said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that former President Donald Trump did not accomplish draining the swamp or securing the border.

Anchor Jake Tapper said, “If you think that culture war issues are too much of a focus for candidates like DeSantis or Trump, what do you think they should be focusing on? What would you, theoretically, if you decide to run, focus on?

Trump definitely secured the border while he was in office. The border became open literally the day after he left office. Real border security must be permanent, not something which shifts wildly from one president to the next.

As for draining the swamp - the swamp is still there, and worked against Trump every day of his presidency. Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, Alexander Vindman - these people are just the tip of the iceberg. The Executive Branch is infested with unelected bureaucrats who will actively work to subvert or thwart the policies of any Republican president.

Thanks to the GOP establishment who fought Trump tooth and nail on the border and protected the Swamp. On day one McConnell told Trump he didn’t want to hear anything about “draining the swamp”. Unfortunately, Trump allowed the establishment to pick people for his cabinet and even conspired with the FBI and Media-Dem Party to take down Trump.

Trump did secure the border, he did it thru Executive Orders, which were 100% reversed on Day One when Biden took over.

The only way to make lasting changes on the border and even that is not assured is to get a legislative solution.
