Defying a last-minute appeal by former President Donald Trump, the Texas House voted overwhelmingly Saturday to impeach Attorney General Ken Paxton, temporarily removing him from office over allegations of misconduct that included bribery and abuse of office.
The vote to adopt the 20 articles of impeachment was 121-23.
The stunning vote came two days after an investigative committee unveiled the articles — and two days before the close of a biennial legislative session that saw significant right-wing victories, including a ban on transgender health care for minors and new restrictions on public universities' diversity efforts.
The vote revealed substantial divisions within the Texas Republican Party — the largest, richest and most powerful state GOP party in the United States. Although the party has won every statewide election for a quarter-century and has controlled both houses of the Legislature since 2003, it has deep underlying fissures, many of them exacerbated by Trump’s rise.
Few attorneys general have been as prominent as Paxton, who made a career of suing the Obama and Biden administrations. One of Trump’s closest allies in Texas, along with Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Paxton unsuccessfully sued to challenge the 2020 presidential election results in four states.
Attention next shifts to the Texas Senate, which will conduct a trial with senators acting as jurors and designated House members presenting their case as impeachment managers.
Permanently removing Paxton from office and barring him from holding future elected office in Texas would require the support of two-thirds of senators.
Impeachment was supported by 60 Republicans, including Speaker Dade Phelan. All votes in opposition came from Republicans

Never saw the reason to back Paxton, I see him as just another slimy lawyer who uses the law to screw others.
We have an old tradition in Texas of very corrupt politicians. Everyone of those aholes who voted to impeach Paxton is just as much of a crook. Paxton’s unique crime is that he was going up against pharma. That was the final line he crossed and I’m sure a LOT of money was “given” out to remove him.
Pressure as a politician to have integrity and honesty or else your career will die and name be smeared. I put politicians on a very high level, only way to control them. So on the flip side, why should they be corrupt as as which seems to be what you are defending.
Yep, a lot of black kettles there.
Well that’s not the world we live in. Sorry to say that.
But as they are marching you to the gas chambers, you can take comfort in the fact that you put politicians on a very high level.
Dates don’t matter, if its wrong, its wrong but we live in entitled times so i understand your POV. It needs to change though to get back on the correct track.
Well this isn’t going to help towards that end.
Really, be careful about saying you were so snookered by a gold guy. He spent it and there was just nothing left to recover.
It might sound to others that you are incredibly stupid and gullible.
I am a Texan slightly to the right of Attila the Hun (as Rush would have said — I miss Rush. RIP.)
But I very much think that Paxton is corrupt to the core. There has been so much stink on him for all of these years, but he has enough friends in Collin County (north of Dallas) to have kept the heat from all the smoke away from him.
The stuff with the “real estate investor” (the guy’s name is Nate Paul) is allegedly just as shady as it comes. I’m going to use the word allegedly a lot! He has been allegedly associated with Mexican drug cartel money. He’s allegedly defrauded his investors in his real estate projects. He’s allegedly perjured himself before Travis County judges and federal bankruptcy judges related to foreclosure proceedings. He is allegedly the target of some serious FBI investigations (I know, I am as suspicious of the FBI as any of you!) related to the above allegations. The word I’ve heard in Texas is that whole objective of this impeachment exercise is to get the R’s out in front before a very big scandal hits.
We HAVE TO. VOTE THESE RINOS OUT.
As a sign of how much dimocrats have perverted the justice system, I automatically disbelieve their allegations in these political persecutions.
Yeah this was the Bush’s all the way...
The bloody handprints most likely those of GPB….
The guy ran a big bullion company. Nothing to be ashamed of. Thousands of people did business with them for years. The the guy walked away with all the money. The guy went to prison. It was the lack of action by Paxton that caused it to crawl along that the guy got rid of all the money.
Nothing to be ashamed of. And there was no gullibility to it at all. This wasn’t an “eBay” scheme.
First you said
This AG cut a sweetheart deal
( Paxton did something?)
Now you say
It was the lack of action by Paxton
( Paxton didn’t do something )
You can’t keep your stories straight.
You act like a chatGPT,,,just makeing stuff up.
I’m with you. So much corruption from the rats, and they get away with everything. No accountability, no prosecutions, no Impeachments. It’s sickening.
Has anyone heard or seen any comment out of DeSantis regarding Ken Paxton and this illegal impeachment? Has he said one word about how bad this is?
Exactly
Exactly to you too!
