Trump: ‘Even Cuomo did better’ than DeSantis on COVID

Former President Donald Trump launched a hail of attacks directed at Gov. Ron DeSantis Friday morning as rumors continue to swirl regarding an impending DeSantis presidential run.

Trump criticized the Florida governor over his state’s “very average” handling of the coronavirus pandemic and pointed to former Democrat New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s handling of the situation.

“How about the fact that he had the third most deaths of any State, as Governor, on the China Virus. Even Cuomo did better,” Trump said on TRUTH Social.

Cuomo reportedly oversaw his state’s health agency “misle[a]d the public” on nursing home deaths.

Even Biden makes more sense than Trump at times...like this.

Who in hell is advising him? Or is this just Trump being Trump?

OMG! That sounds a little over the top. In fact, where I come from, it is "the pot calling the kettle black!"

If my memory serves me correctly, it was Trump who turned our collective COVID treatment over to the likes of Fauci, Brix, and Pfizer. How'd that work out?

I voted for Trump twice, but Reagan's 11th commandment (attack on fellow Republicans) needs a rewrite to address Trump's aggressive assault on Desantis.

That is such horseshit. Cuomo was an accessory to the murder of many hundreds of seniors in nursing homes through his actions. Damn, Trump… do better.

“Trump funded the lockdowns by signing the CARES Act, which pumped $2 trillion into the economy and started the inflation we suffer with today.”

Oh yeah. Thanks for reminding me. Trump is the one responsible for handing free cash to family and friends that I knew that were not only NOT hurting for money, but were actually thriving in that economy. People that DIDN’T NEED free $$$ got it anyway. And I remember thinking about the massive inflation that that giveaway would result in. And here we are. Food prices through the roof and going up daily....along with every other price of goods....making up for any dollar amount that was paid out back then. Another self-defeating bad decision by Trump, apparently.

“On March 27, Trump signed a $2 trillion COVID-19 relief bill, the CARES Act, which gave each adult in the U.S. a one-time payment of $1,200 and added another $500 for every child.”

I agree with almost everything you said except at the end when you said Trump should be ashamed of himself. If you meant Trump should be ashamed of attacking DeSantis, that’s for sure. But, that’s Trump. It’s his DNA. His sycophantic followers actually enjoy him saying things like his political enemy’s father assassinated JFK and has an ugly wife, and blaming all of his losses on elections being rigged and so forth.

If you meant that Trump should be ashamed of what he did during COVID, that may be obvious looking backward. But, in real time, everybody was working on little actual knowledge and the so-called experts telling us we were facing something worse than the bubonic plague.

In my book, the only people who should be ashamed of themselves are the Governors (all Democrats) who ordered elderly into nursing homes while removing their own aged parents from nursing homes. Correct me if I’m wrong but this includes Trump’s new friend, the former Govornor of New York, as well as the Governors of New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Michigan.

The more time Trump spends firing in the circle, the less chance he has of winning a second term.

I want to hear how the government will be changed to prevent Obama’s fourth term or anything like the current state of corruption from ever happening again.

A good start would be to cut the government in half and then make it a capital crime for an elected or unelected bureaucrat to have one penny of other income if they take the taxpayer paycheck.

While in service in DC, elected officials should live in barracks and eat at a fed mess hall, just like the boys they send to war do.

“This is overwhelmingly the worst accusation from Trump, although questioning DeSantis’ sexual preference is pretty close.”

I totally agree. What is most appalling to me is how any Trump loyalists could possibly defend this latest comment of his...

if he truly did say it.

These days, I need visual, video proof of stuff like this. Media tends to deliberately misquote (lie about) people like Trump....consistently.

> Who in hell is advising him? <

You have hit upon a key point. It sure looks like no one is advising him. It also looked that way for much of his presidency.

This is a serious flaw. It’s not a big deal for folks like me. I do stupid things almost daily (my ex-wife can attest to that). But my unforced errors do not affect the country.

It’s different with Trump. The country needs the whole MAGA concept. Trump is the best one to deliver it. But he desperately needs a check.

Or the old carpenter’s saying goes: Measure twice, cut once.
Not: Hack away wherever it seems right at the moment.

“Correct me if I’m wrong but this includes Trump’s new friend, the former Govornor of New York, as well as the Governors of New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Michigan.”

And don’t forget the current Democrat Governor of California. You know....Pelosi’s nephew-by-marriage. All it takes to get Trump to NOT attack you is to say nice things about him....even if you’re lying....which all Democrats do.

“”I used to get along great with him when I was president. We got along really good, Gavin,” Trump said.

“Wait, you got along with Gavin Newsom?!” Carlson shot back in astonishment. The host has long raged at Newsom and even recently warned on his broadcast that Newsom could be the Democrats’ 2024 contingency plan if President Joe Biden falters.

“He was always very nice to me. He said the greatest things. He would say things like ‘Oh, he’s doing a great job,’” Trump added. “That’s why I could never hit him because he was so nice to me.”

The key to election is to understand the context of what’s going on. In 2016 Brexit was on the front page. Nationalism and sovereignty was a topic.
Trump was contextually ideal. The fact he governed well was amazing

Now if Trump learned any lessons he could adapt to the context of today. People are looking for solutions to a black swan event that has now passed. The question is who will have the “steady hand on the tiller”. If Trump could show that ability he would have a chance. People are tired and beat up. Trump likes to be brash and brawl. It’s not what people are looking for.

I was trying to be tactful and not just come out and say Trump is full of BS (didn’t want to rile up the cultists…).

In fact, it’s so wrong that it makes me wonder if Trump is starting to have some of Biden” mental issues!

He was gifted with the “Durham Report” that’s all he should talk about! He should be planning and doing civil rights court actions against FedGov & the individuals responsible. It would be great political PR and more importantly it’s the right thing to do! Even “independent voters” see the injustice and acknowledge that! He should be doing and saying things that keep that in the news 24\7 all the way to Nov 5 2024! It alone seals the deal on the nomination (as if there was any question!)!

Continuing this snippy, childish, boorish behavior against DeSantis undermines the political “kill shot” the Durham report is! The behavior will move the political conversation from the injustice cited in the Durham Report to the background and Trump’s petty behavior to the front. The only thing making DeSantis competitive for the nomination now is Trump’s inability to control his mouth! The primary is over, it’s time to start running for the general.

“Trump is losing me. “

Same. I live here on FL, on MAGA country—Volusia County. Desantis was my Congressman. I like them both.

But Trump is flat out wrong, again. Adjusted for age, FL was average for deaths ascribed to covid.

Desantis started to follow the CDC guidance, like most governors, but quickly changed his mind (thank God) and left it up to each county. Most counties went with minimal or no lockdowns, etc. Our beach was shut for 2 weeks, and many of us defied it every day.

Desantis also refused a State mandated vax requirment, and quickly prevented local govts from implementing their own.

Etc.

Desamtis was GREAT on covid, period. Early on, he snagged 6 million doses of HCQ, for example. Quickly pushed laws through preventing sending sick people to nursing homes, unlike Coumo.

The left went bonkers!!! The pressure from msm and others to shit down the beaches, etc. was enormous! They gave him the nickname, “Deathsantis” because of his refusal to cowtow to the CDC princes.

I don’t think he’s ready to be POTUS yet though. In 4 years, yes.

Trump is flat out wrong. And I’m getting tired of it. I may vote Vivek. Or better yet, register as a dem and vote for RFK.

Trump was a great president….for three years. After that, he was an unmitigated disaster. He allowed the lockdowns and refused to fire Fauci. And Trump has accepted zero blame for wrecking the country during Covid. All he has are excuses and finger pointing at DeSantis.

“ It’s quite another thing to say that a depraved person like Cuomo did better job than a fellow Republican.”

Par for the course for Trump. He was pumping up Charlie Christ right before the FL governor election in November

I don’t if you will accept this as a friendly amendment, but here goes ...

During the first half of 2020 COVID deaths approx. equaled excess deaths. This means, as you say, COVID was killing people who wouldn’t ordinarily have died at that time.

By August 2020, excess deaths were zero. COVID deaths merely displaced deaths that ordinarily would have been attributed to flu and pneumonia.

By October 2020, we had the Great Barrington Declaration laying out the proper principles to be followed when society is faced with a pandemic. Mostly, to protect the vulnerable.

https://gbdeclaration.org/#read

Since Governor DeSantis followed these principles, I would hope that he names some of the prominent experts in infectious diseases to the appropriate places in the federal government if he is elected President. I would hope for the same thing were former President Trump to return to office; but, is he (Trump) painting himself in a corner attacking DeSantis on the pandemic response?

“I do not know whether the statistic Trump cited is accurate; however, the headline leaves out the context and is misleading to that extent.”

Even if the stat is correct, it would still be misleading ... since Trump knows (because he lives there) that Florida probably has the 2nd largest population of the elderly (lots of retired New Yorkers) in the nation. And Covid-19 was particularly deadly for the elderly, especially ones with other illnesses.

Trump being Trump is not a good look, since it reeks of dishonesty.

I agree. Die-hard Trump supporters might not like it, but Trump is losing the squishy middle. Those folks are tired of the inflation, and all the crime. But they don’t want a studio wrestler in charge. They want another Reagan.

Maybe the country needs a brawler. But that brawler has got to get elected first. And as of now, too many folks in the middle say no to that.

DeSantis at least realized his mistake and corrected it. Lockdown Don has never admitted he was wrong or taken any accountability for his actions. His President Pfizer routine is getting old.
