Former President Donald Trump launched a hail of attacks directed at Gov. Ron DeSantis Friday morning as rumors continue to swirl regarding an impending DeSantis presidential run.
Trump criticized the Florida governor over his state’s “very average” handling of the coronavirus pandemic and pointed to former Democrat New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s handling of the situation.
“How about the fact that he had the third most deaths of any State, as Governor, on the China Virus. Even Cuomo did better,” Trump said on TRUTH Social.
Cuomo reportedly oversaw his state’s health agency “misle[a]d the public” on nursing home deaths.

With this Trump vs. DeSantis situation, some of the loudest voices on Free Republic, say they would never vote for DeSantis, if he were the nominee. Some say they would write in Trump, and that they don’t care if Biden wins re-election, as long as DeSantis loses the general election.
And there are some DeSantis supporters, who say the same about Trump, that they won’t vote for Trump, and go on to say that they want Biden and Democrats re-elected to block Trump from the White House.
I am stunned sometimes at some of the comments, here on Free Republic. Some people have no realistic views of how politics works, how political parties work, how we have two major parties and one of those will win a presidential election, etc.
I’m getting sick of Trump’s mouth and the DeSantis bashing. He’s like an overtired 5 year old.
Been here an awfully long time and have resisted jumping in here. My pipe dream was that Donald and Ron figure out a way forward together. That dream has died - it seems. Trump (and we) have been wronged grossly, beyond comprehension.
That said, I don’t see how Trump changes anything from 2020. I love, love, love Trump, but believe DeSantis is our best bet. We moved to Florida to retire and it is glorious. I believe DeSantis can scale Florida across the US.
I am, to say the least, bewildered by Trump’s remark here. It’s is one thing to gently criticize a fellow Republican. It’s quite another thing to say that a depraved person like Cuomo did better job than a fellow Republican.
Kinda like FDR saying that Hitler is a better strategist than Churchill. Not helpful at all.

I live in Florida and was living here, what I experienced was far different than the rest of the country.
Bars and Restaurants were open in Florida at the beginning of May 2020, remind me when the Restaurants in NY were open.
School were open for in-person classes, in the fall of 2020, Super Bowl was played in Florida in February 2021, reminded me when those things happened in NY.
Somehow you conveniently left those things out of your response which is what I would say is nonsense.

As follow up, has Trump ever said a single negative word about Fauci or the vaccines, just curious, I don’t follow his every word, but I have not heard one criticism of either one.

New York’s deaths occurred early on, before there was a shutdown, and were largely due to Cuomo’s disastrous policy of forcing Covid sufferers into Nursing homes where they ended up killing lots of other residents.
By the time DeSantis was killing people, he truly should have known better.

For how long? Why is it so many of us remember Florida as one of the states that opened long before Trump and others thought it was safe? Remember Fauci predicting disaster? I do.
Arizona, Georgia, Florida, Texas - I drove across country in May 2020 and these states were the best for reopening. Georgia may have been THE best. And I remember Trump’s reaction:

FWIW, the small town I was living in in Arizona didn’t actually shut down. Everyone ignored Doug Ducey. The church I went to resumed live services in mid-April 2020. Several never shut at all.
Everyone’s record is fair game in presidential elections.
Not me. Has Trump forgotten that Cuomo and NYC turned back the Navy hospital ship he sent? That the tent hospital the Army set up went largely unused? That, because states like New York sold off or junked respirator machines in the years leading up to the event, industries acroos the nation had to retool to meet the new demand?

Go peddle your COVID Fear Porn elsewhere! Good Lord! Smart people NEVER shut down any more than required to stay out of jail. There was no excuse for masking and shutting ANY business down by May 2020. DeSantis (and pretty much all governmen), was LATE in re-opening. But he was ahead of Trump.
