On May 13, 2023, during a meeting with the Pope, Volodymyr Zelensky presented the pontiff with an “icon” of the Mother of God with a black void instead of the Infant Jesus. The image is called “Loss of 2022-58”, its author is Ukrainian artist Oleksiy Revika, reports the Ukrayina Moloda resource. Despite the fact that journalists call Revika's work a "painting", it is very reminiscent of a parody of the Iberian Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos.
Revika himself claims on his Facebook page that “this is a work about the loss of Ukrainian children in the aggressive war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine. Glory to Ukraine!".

There was a time when most images of God were represented by a glow or a featureless image. This was done out of respect. From the details here, I am not so sure that was the artist’s intent. Blaming a clueless politician for this, is a bit of a stretch, unless they asked for it that way.
