Nancy Mace: GOP Will ‘Suffer in 2024’ Because of Abortion Laws
Breitbart ^ | 5/17/23 | Pam Key

Posted on 05/18/2023 3:50:57 AM PDT by cotton1706

Representative Nancy Mace (R-SC) said Wednesday on CNN’s “The Lead” that the Republican Party will “suffer” in the 2024 election because of several red state legislatures’ abortion bans.

Anchor Jake Tapper said, “Do you think your party will face any sort of electoral blowback for these bans, many of which do not align with polling in terms of what people want, even in conservative states people want in many polls some sort of middle ground, maybe a 12-week ban, a 15-week ban, no ban for victims of rape and incest. Do you think your party will suffer at the polls?

Mace said, “We suffered in 2022, and I believe we’ll suffer in 2024 if we don’t have a message that shows compassion for women. You can balance the two. I would garner if you were to do a ballot referendum on abortion in a conservative state like South Carolina, the majority of voters would not be in support of a six-week ban that allowed very few exceptions for a short period of time and required women to have their rapes reported to the police. That’s not going to fly with most people, whether they’re men or women.

She added, “I saw this in my own district in a very purple district last year. I saw how the issue swayed voters. It was the number two issue in our race. I even ran TV ads talking about rape. I was probably the only Republican in the country who was willing to have that very uncomfortable conversation. I was willing to fight for women regardless of their circumstances, especially to the women who went through the worst.”

“We just won a 50-year battle”

The battle was over the USSC claiming authority to make stuff up.

The Dobbs case did NOT make abortion illegal, if that’s what you thought overturning Roe v. Wade would do (and a lot of good people thought exactly that), you were wrong.

Abortion has become very popular, and not just with “libs”. Any regime in 2023 where abortion is subject to popular will is going to have a lot of abortions.

I was never under any illusions about what overturning Roe vs. Wade would mean. The battle has now turned to the people and their representatives in the several legislatures. Some states will have high restrictions on abortion, some none at all, and several anywhere in between, Florida 6 weeks, North Carolina 12 weeks, Mississippi 15 weeks, etc.

And then those legislators will face reelection. We’ve yet to see the dust fully settle. It’ll take several elections and legislative sessions. But the battle is now where it should always have been.

actually they are different- i am not for abortion up until birth. If you have a healthy baby you don’t want- leave it at the hospital and let them contact social services. But 1st 3 months, I feel differently.

i was not fighting, simply stating that my adult daughters and their friends would not care what a stranger thinks of their opinions. I’m amazed that you would think they would!
anyhow thats all

“ Conservatives are not against abortion based upon political considerations, they are against it because it is taking a life created by God and disposing of it for convenience.”

Of course, but when discussing politics with a predominantly atheist and hedonistic electorate, that just pisses them off.

A 3-month old human fetus is already a human being (long before that, actually, at conception). If you were to hold a healthy 3-month old human fetus in your hand, would you snuff out it's life for any reason?

where do you get this stuff? do people really have access to 3 mo. old fetus and get to hold them in their hands?
I did not think so- and it’s not up to me- or you what someone else would do. So please let this go, at least as far as i am concerned.

It was a hypothetical question, as the baby in the picture is obviously just an accurate model of a 3-month old human embryo. But, again, your non-answer again gives me a little more clarity into your position.

BTW, I had already agreed to end our discussion and said my good day's, but you were the one that chose to take it up again. Again may I say, good day to you ronniesgirl.

“Republicans currently control:

59% of legislative chambers (58 out of 99)

56% pf state senate seats (1,111 out of 1,973)

54% of state house seats (2,944 out of 5,413)”

Off topic, but imagine what the U.S. senate would look like if we didn’t have the 17th Amendment.

Sorry, but those are lagging indicators. If you look at the leading indicators like the losses in Upstate NY, or the ones yesterday in Republican cities like Jacksonville and Colorado Springs, it is clear we are on a losing streak.

One reason why women weren’t allowed to vote. The weaker ones don’t reason with their brains. For me i think only land owners should be able to vote. and anyone in the military. and voting is not a right.

Jax isn’t actually a republican city ... but it is surrounded by a sea of red.

Commies all like abortion, as well as many other policies. i.e. open borders. Doesn’t matter if you are an “R” commie or a “D” commie.
