Nancy Mace: GOP Will ‘Suffer in 2024’ Because of Abortion Laws
Breitbart ^ | 5/17/23 | Pam Key

Posted on 05/18/2023 3:50:57 AM PDT by cotton1706

Representative Nancy Mace (R-SC) said Wednesday on CNN’s “The Lead” that the Republican Party will “suffer” in the 2024 election because of several red state legislatures’ abortion bans.

Anchor Jake Tapper said, “Do you think your party will face any sort of electoral blowback for these bans, many of which do not align with polling in terms of what people want, even in conservative states people want in many polls some sort of middle ground, maybe a 12-week ban, a 15-week ban, no ban for victims of rape and incest. Do you think your party will suffer at the polls?

Mace said, “We suffered in 2022, and I believe we’ll suffer in 2024 if we don’t have a message that shows compassion for women. You can balance the two. I would garner if you were to do a ballot referendum on abortion in a conservative state like South Carolina, the majority of voters would not be in support of a six-week ban that allowed very few exceptions for a short period of time and required women to have their rapes reported to the police. That’s not going to fly with most people, whether they’re men or women.

She added, “I saw this in my own district in a very purple district last year. I saw how the issue swayed voters. It was the number two issue in our race. I even ran TV ads talking about rape. I was probably the only Republican in the country who was willing to have that very uncomfortable conversation. I was willing to fight for women regardless of their circumstances, especially to the women who went through the worst.”

The left and GOPe thinks every position and policy decision should be made only for political reasons. Since politics is the only reason they support or do not support action on any given issue, they do not understand a position taken solely on principles.

Conservatives are not against abortion based upon political considerations, they are against it because it is taking a life created by God and disposing of it for convenience.

Mace doesn’t understand that point since she is just concerned about political ramifications of taking a pro-life stance.

“We won Dobbs! Let the states make their decisions and work within your state.”

I don’t think conservatives will like that outcome. Didn’t Kansas try amending its constitution to ban abortions and didn’t that effort get thrashed by voters?

The next play will be keeping the issue off the ballot so voters can’t vote the “wrong way”.

We are all entitled to parse reality as we see fit. Sometimes a look at the bigger picture helps sometimes we choose to be informed by emotion. Freegards.

Another lie. Saying that some pro-life people think a decision may be too restrictive has nothing to do with defecation although the deliberate misinterpretation and incorrect attribution of remarks may have.

Is English your native language? The use of metaphor seems alien to you.

And “some people say [whatever]” is classic weasel-speak for “I say [whatever], but I don’t want to be held accountable for it”.

I disagree, Nancy.

I do think yes, some will be lost without compromise but I also think that even more would be lost with compromise.

Ok, here’s where I get clobbered for my opinion lol.

I think there are a good many evangelicals that lean socialist/democrat but hang with the republicans because of the pro-life position.

If republicans say uncle, then those voters leave.

The other solid republicans will leave because what’s the point if the republicans betray them on abortion, like they have with a pile of other issues.

They will just sit out the vote.

I think the republican problem isn’t abortion— it’s that they’re wishy-washy and mostly soft, democrats aren’t soft and we know what they say about the strong horse.

Trump and DeSantis are the front runners because they’re not seen as soft.

Get off the fence and grow a backbone, RNC.

This decision should be between the parents and their doctor.

So if they decide they don’t want the child for the same reasons two weeks after it is born, its OK to murder it? How about 6 months later? How about 6 years later? It’s the same human child that was in the womb that is being killed, only the location and stage of development has changed. Just because we can’t see it doesn’t make it less human or killing it any less murder.

This Nancy Mace is rapidly become an opposition mole in the GOP.

It’s fine for her to have differences in ideology to a certain extent, but her continually appearing in left wing media to talk almost exclusively about those differences is somewhat suspect.

She’s not helping the cause...

...but I think she knows that.

The “6 week” ban is common throughout Europe. So what do the “Enlightened Euros” know that we don’t know. They don’t have an abortion racket like we do.

Typican female RINO (in the mold of Collins, Murkowski, et al). If she were HONEST (and she isn’t); she would switch parties to Democrat, but she probably wouldn’t get elected in SC.

It should be between the doctor and the patient and in accordance with the laws of the state.
Neither the doctor or the parents are above the law.

Our Country & the American people will rise or fall by the character of those people. Our Constitution will enable us to keep a free and just Nation only as long as it governs a moral electorate. It is profoundly important how the rights of the weak and helpless are protected. There is a balance between the rights of the mother & the rights of the baby.

An interested party, the mother, is not able to decide unilaterally to end a life at her sole discretion. That is why there is a need for laws and for a doctor or a board to confirm that the requested action (if outside the legislated period for unregulated termination) is ethical and both individuals are considered.

Just because some weasels use the phrase that way does not mean that the phrase is automatically assumed to be weaseling.
I think it was an accurate statement.

You seem to want President Trump to have produced a treatise on cue, at the time of the question, which would enumerate all situations and eliminated all nuance from his position on the question of abortion. He owes no one such a treatise and especially not at the spur of the moment.

I submit the weasel is you, since you want to trap someone so that you can twist words & falsely imply positions for your purposes. Since President Trump was wise enough not to give a sound bite that would be misused and could never adequately cover a complex topic he is a weasel according to you. I suggest it is the thief who cries thief.

Your comments are far removed from reality. I notice that problem frequently with Trump’s more enthusiastic admirers.

Freegards means I do not want to fight and I hold you in no disregard. And that is despite your hostility towards me on this thread.

Freepers are passionate people and discuss issues that are we feel strongly about. I do you the honor of assuming you prefer honesty to diplomacy. That after all is the point of the forum, an honest exchange of ideas.

I have been a freeper long enough that I know I can disagree with someone on some issue even passionately but agree with them in later conversations. That is why I try never to part in anger but to part with the idea we may have more agreement another time, another topic.

I always value clarity over agreement. By your non-answers I can only surmise that your position on abortion is no different than those of pro-abortion women on the Left. So, yes, we are in disagreement and we can leave it at that. A good day to you too, ronniesgal.
