WASHINGTON, May 17 (Reuters) - Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis will officially enter the 2024 U.S. presidential race next week, according to two sources familiar with the decision, immediately becoming Donald Trump's biggest rival for the Republican nomination and shaking up a contest that largely has been one-sided.
DeSantis will likely file paperwork declaring his candidacy on May 25 to coincide with a donor meeting in Miami, with a more formal launch the week of May 29, according to a source.
The invitation for the May 25 event stated that donors would be put to “work,” an apparent allusion to raising money for DeSantis, according to a source familiar with the event.

Many of us have held out because Trump is the only man who can do right by conservatives. The rest are just politicians. Some better than others, but all politicians. When Trump is no longer on scene, we can do no more saving the Country by voting. It will only lead us further into the deep. At that point, best bets going to be stay home or vote democrat and let it all go to hell. That’s the only other way this ship gets righted properly. So, go ahead and get DS on the top of the ticket. Prepare to lose in 24. Most of us who actually have brain cells to rub together are done with the games.
