HELENA — Montana has become the first state to sign into law legislation banning Tiktok from operating within their borders, with Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte signing Senate Bill 419 into law on Wednesday. The ban goes into effect on January 1, 2024.
In a press release, Gianforte said he signed the bill to “protect Montanas’ person, private, and sensitive data” from being gathered by China.
“The Chinese Communist Party using TikTok to spy on Americans, violate their privacy, and collect their personal, private, and sensitive information is well-documented,” Gianforte said. “Today, Montana takes the most decisive action of any state to protect Montanans’ private data and sensitive personal information from being harvested by the Chinese Communist Party.”
The federal government and state agencies in Montana had already banned TikTok on government devices. SB 419 goes further and extends to personal devices stating that “Tiktok may not operate within the territorial jurisdiction of Montana.” The legislation also prevents app companies like Apple and Google from offering TikTok for download.
Once the law goes into effect, the Montana Department of Justice will be able to fine app stores or ByteDance — TikTok’s parent company — $10,000 for each discrete violation and $10,000 for each day that a violation continues.
The law only impacts the distribution of the app, it does not have any penalties for TikTok users.
SB 419 passed the Montana House 54-43 on April 14 and cleared the Montana Senate 30-20 on March 2. The bill made it through both chambers with bipartisan support and opposition.

Baloney. I wondered what the truth was so I downloaded it. It’s positive, funny, upbeat and entertaining. Cool cooking ideas, positive relationship and family advice, comedy, home projects, dogs, positive life and health ideas.... you name it.
Turns out the whole problem with TikTok is that it blows away Zuckerbergs Instagram and Facebook in quality.
Has a pretty nifty parental control feature too. It has exploded in popularity and bypassed Instagram. Zuckerberg called his politicians and wants the competition restricted.
Simple as that.

Whatever. Show me a social media platform that doesn’t have mountains of the same crap.
The difference is that TikTok quickly sends you thinks based on your searches and watches.
A decent person never sees the garbage.
And if you want to watch you kids, look at their “for you” and scroll through ten videos. if you see anything obscene or immoral there, it is because your kid is watching it. If it is clean, then your kid isn’t watching it when they are alone.
It lets you look at what the algorythm thinks your kid want’s to see.
It’s a high quality positive platform and leaves you in a good mood, not agitated like the Zuckerberg products.
I can tell you havent tried it. I was very surprised at what I found it to be. And I realized, the politicians have loed to us yet again for their donors.
Utah has been talking about doing the same thing to Tiktok.
I really don’t know what to think on this. If the chinese are really spying on us by way of it then it should be banned. I just don’t know what the chinese would get out of watching a bunch of mentally ill trans people rant all the time.

This is exactly what will happen. TikTok has parental controls. But parents are just too lazy to use these. And they are not illegally spying on us anymore than our own government is...
Jameson Travels is great. Odin’s Men has pretty much gone away. I watch him on Locals now.
