The Tiger was a very expensive and labor intensive tank to make.

Each tank required some 300,000 man hours to produce.

The Germans only made about 1,300 hundred of them with most of those going to the Russian front.

You’re right. The chances of any Allied tanker encountering a Tiger in Normandy or anywhere else on The Western front were about 1 in 10.

Under the old regime, leftovers from the Russian era, Ukraine was even more corrupt than Russia.

Today Ukraine is far less corrupt than Russia, and Ukraine is moving up on the less corrupt scale while Russia is getting worse on it.

Zelensky and his party are reformers, it isn’t 2015 anymore.

In 2015 Russia was ranked as less corrupt than Ukraine.

In 2015 Russia was at 119 and Ukraine at 130

Today Russia is at 137 and Ukraine at 116.

“Today Russia is at 137 and Ukraine at 116.”

Russia is much worse than that ranking when Putin can skim enough oil and gas profits to be as wealthy as Jeff Bezos. But at least Putin is superannuated skank free, unlike Bezos

I remember the Drive-By Media talking about the ‘battle-hardened’ Iraq Republican Guard. Between them, and the state-of-the-art Russian military equipment, the United States would be defeated. Later, when President Trump warned the Russians in Syria that we were going to attack, more media lauded the Russians. Too bad the regular Russian people have had such idiots in charge for so long.

We feel their pain. Perhaps Putin has an Easter Bunny running things for him too.

Russian Kinzhal Missile Strikes US Patriot System in Kiev + the Fundamental Disadvantage West Faces

Update on the conflict in Ukraine for May 17, 2023:

- Russia’s Ministry of Defense and US officials confirm Russian hypersonic Kinzhal missiles successfully targeted US-made Patriot air defense systems;

- Patriot systems launched approximately 30 missiles over 2 minutes, representing tens of millions of dollars of missiles that were already in short supply;

- Despite this, the Western media continues repeating obvious fabrications about Ukraine intercepting “all” incoming missiles and drones. The Patriot system falling victim to a Kinzhal missile despite firing upward to 30 missiles calls into question Ukraine’s previous claims of intercepting a Kinzhal days earlier;

- As Ukraine burns through Western weapons and ammunition, the West continues preparing to transfer other weapon systems including warplanes;

- European nations are preparing a “coalition” to purchase and provide F-16 fighters to Ukraine;

- F-16 warplanes have no specific capability beyond the aircraft that made up Ukraine’s original air force which is now mostly destroyed;

Among others:

https://www.electronicsweekly.com/blogs/mannerisms/dilemmas/russias-backward-chip-industry-2022-04/

It’s pretty well known, as far as I can tell. Currently their yield rate is pretty bad, but they *are* making 65nm chips, reportedly. The Elbrus-4, for example. Their 65nm process is an entirely indigenously developed one and it’s apparently rather weird. They even use oddly sized wafers (100/150/200mm vs world standard 300mm).

The funny thing is that the Russians *didn’t* previously develop their own 90nm process. They got an extremely late start on it, couldn’t make a go of it and eventually licensed STMicroelectronics’ 90nm process in 2010.

Lithography 14 nm
___

This is the 14nm CPU desktop computer/ 16 gb ram/ Windows 11 / I am typing on right now. It works great! I have a laptop with lower NM at 10 nm. TSMC is down to 7 NM last I looked.

People can obsess about NM but I think10 NM is good enough. What I really like about Bill Gates Windows is the ability to tone down the blue light at night

Eh, that’s not really germane to the topic at hand.

That said, 65nm limits Russian native manufacture (barring any off the wall techniques/applications) to chips and speeds roughly comparable to what was available on the consumer market in 2003 or so.

And no, 10nm isn’t good enough. Intel spent much of the last half decade trying to pretend it was, but now they’re getting their lunch eaten by everyone else.

Wrong! 10 Nm CPU is good enough for all you want to do with a Desktop or Laptop.

But 7NM (TMSC can do this) and less, is what the obsessed need for their phones and tablets. Lower power and battery draw. Do they do anything useful in the work world?\\\\ No!

\I just looked at my Phone ..10 Nm chip... My phone https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_a51-9963.php

It isn’t good enough for anything but a desktop if buying new. Laptop battery life is better on 7nm chips (in general). Considering that business is increasingly moving away from desktops and towards laptops and tablets.... Not sure you get where tablets don’t do anything useful in the work world.

And in the end, if you are a chip company and you’re stuck with 14nm+++/10nm like Intel is... well, you have problems right about now.
