President Joe Biden caved to Republicans and signaled that he could accept some reforms in a potential debt ceiling deal after months of refusing to negotiate any spending cuts or reforms.
White House and congressional staffers have wrangled over the details of a potential debt ceiling deal.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, who previously warned that the deadline was June 1 to pressure Congress, said she was hopeful about a deal.

“It’s a trap!”
If Biden would cave, it would be a huge victory for McCarthy, and the country.
No, it won't. Not until they say no to raising it outright. Instead, what we get is a little bit of give on cuts, but we're still raising the debt limit, and we will continue to do so year after year. It never ends.
War machine needs that money.
Why not let them negotiate and stop all the speculation in these articles?
There is a pattern of reports that the WH is caving and then they don’t. Gamesmanship. Pubs being played.
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument
Most of the federal debt is base on unconstitutional, unaccountable federal taxing and spending imo.
The only way to peacefully discipline the very corrupt, post-17th Amendment ratification federal governent to stop unconstitutional taxes is for patriots to work with their state lawmakers to repeal the 16th Amendment (direct taxes) imo.
The 17th Amendment (popular voting for federal senators) needs to disappear too.
These foolish amendments effectively repealed the whole Constitution imo.
"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
“If the tax be not proposed for the common defence, or general welfare, but for other objects, wholly extraneous, (as for instance, for propagating Mahometanism among the Turks, or giving aids and subsidies to a foreign nation, to build palaces for its kings, or erect monuments to its heroes,) it would be wholly indefensible upon constitutional principles [emphases added].” — Justice Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution 2 (1833).
From the congressional record:
”Simply this, that the care of the property, the liberty, and the life of the citizen, under the solemn sanction of an oath imposed by your Constitution, is in the States and not in the federal government [emphases added]. I have sought to effect no change in that respect in the Constitution of the country.” —John Bingham, Congressional. Globe. 1866, page 1292 (see top half of third column)
Pelosi: "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it." (non-FR; 6 sec.)
“Cherish, therefore, the spirit of our people, and keep alive their attention. If once they become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress and Assemblies, judges and governors, shall all become wolves [emphasis added]. It seems to be the law of our general nature.” - Thomas Jefferson (Letter to Edward Carrington January 16, 1787)
Democrats Are Terrified Of An Educated And Informed Public (3.12.23)
Biden needs to negotiate from a position of strength. So, he will be sure his butt’s been wiped.
Yellen will default on something so she can blame it on the GOP
Sounds like a lie because there should be no debt ceiling to negotiate. But Trumps K McCarthy is always more money from your table is better. Just like trumps math dodge on Social security by paying these border crossers to have babies thereby enlarging the Ponzi scheme.
A common sense audit of SS spending and eliminate every payment for those under the age and stripping out the slush fund would be a common sense approach.
The “WAR” in Ukraine will eventually be over.
The illegal INVADERS will still be sucking at our resources.
They’ll move on to another Ukraine, Iraq, etc.
If McCarthy wants to keep his job, he needs to get all the concessions the Conservatives are demanding.
Members of both parties are working feverishly behind the scenes to wet their beaks in an impending “compromise”.
Yep..pure BS.
