Russia tried to destroy a US-made Patriot air defense system in Ukraine last week with a hypersonic missile, two US officials told CNN. The attack failed, and the Ukrainian military instead intercepted the missile using the Patriot system, the officials said, marking their first known successful Ukrainian use of the advanced air defense system only weeks after it arrived in country.

So we should thank Russia for a successful field test? Cool. Glad it worked against the highly spammed hypersonic dommsday missiles.
All this is based on, if it actually is true.
and?
are we supposed to gasp at the Russians destroying a piece of military equipment being used by those they’re fighting?
Russian translation:
Supersonic = Not Supersonic
It’s CNN. It’s shite.
Ha! I thought they were right wing now, since they gave Trump a platform. Lol.
It might be capable of going over mach 5 (”hypersonic” as differentiated from supersonic), but it’s likely to lose accuracy at high speeds. If you have a look behind the link in comment #4, you’ll see photos of the nosecone of the downed missile.
I don’t have a metallurgical list for the nosecone, but that might be a mix of metal and some kind of common refractory compound (for withstanding heat). The hole reveals that the material was brittle. It might be of better use in some kind of home or shop heating appliance. The stuff is not good for producing an accurate missile, either.
Looks a bit like Iranian technology.
Yeah, it’s CNN. But it had a bowel movement and dumped Don Lemon. That’s something.
The nose cone looks to me to be carbon fiber composite. Probably carbon carbon composite

They’re something. What do they have? 9k viewers?
Trump’s townhall lapped all their viewership for a year. Tells you that they don’t care about ratings or money.
The bomb attached to the aircraft is not a hypersonic missile because there is no hypersonic booster. Somebody is trying to pull a fast one. This is clearly a lie. Or Journalists need to crawl under their rocks and die.
Did the anti-missile shoot down a missile that was headed straight for the anti-missile?
Possibly the easiest thing for it to shoot down, no?
Funny the Patriot system worked against a hypersonic missile but couldn’t stop the Iranian drones targeting Saudi oil fields.
Well then you're beef is with Putin, who in 2018 announced the Kinjal was a hypersonic missile.
He said that another new weapons system, called Kinzhal, already has been deployed in Russia's Southern Military District. He added that it's a hypersonic missile carried by an aircraft that flies at a speed 10 times of the speed of sound and has a range of 2,000 kilometres away.

On 11 May 2023, Vitali Klitschko showed fragmets of the alleged downed Kinzhal missile for Bild journalists in Kyiv. The Russian media reported that the fragments actually closely resemble the concrete-piercing BETAB-500ShP aerial bomb.[48][49]So, this was not a Hypersonic Missile. Didn't look like it to me.
