Tucker Carlson is preparing to unleash allies to attack Fox News in an effort to bully the network into letting him work for — or start — a right-wing rival, sources close to him tell Axios.
Bryan Freedman, the high-powered Hollywood lawyer Carlson retained for the contract dispute, told Axios: "The idea that anyone is going to silence Tucker and prevent him from speaking to his audience is beyond preposterous." Why it matters: Tucker vs. Fox could reshape the conservative news world. Fox, which has seen its ratings plunge in Carlson's slot since he was let go 13 days ago, wants to sideline him by paying him $20 million a year not to work.

There was a time I wouldn’t call Tucker a conservative, but he sure is now.
I remember him on Crossfire when he was the token “conservative” way before he came to Fox when he was still wearing his bowties. I never considered him more than a RINO

Without seeing the contract Tucker signed with Fox it is impossible to speculate on his freedom to act. It may preclude him from disparaging Fox, his bosses and the Murdochs in perpetuity. It may preclude him from working for anyone else and from starting his own business through the duration of the contract as long as Fox is paying him to sit on the bench.
Employment contracts are expensive and tough to get out of. At high levels both sides in negotiating the contract are represented by top drawer lawyers so it is difficult to later argue later in court one didn’t understand the contract or the contract was unfair. The courts have ruled people can voluntarily agree to limits on their rights (i.e. freedom of speech, freedom to start a business) in private contracts voluntarily signed.
It is very possible the Fox contract in great detail stipulates the permissible actions of both parties in the case of involuntary and voluntary termination. If so, as long as Fox performs to the letter of the contract, Tucker is also contractually bound to perform.
Unless the contract is made public, at this point in time all commentary on Tucker’s freedom to act independently is pure speculation. Presumably his very expensive and skilled attorneys have told him what he can and cannot do while they attempt to facilitate his transition to life after Fox.
Axios reporting here? I think we can not take this too seriously until we see what Tucker really does.

Roger Ailes conceived Fox News as a conservative alternative to the MSM. He knew the appeal needed to be broad. His concept was “fair and balanced” He succeed.
There are not enough “conservative” viewers to support a conservative news provider.
