Thousands of Americans Try To Take Advantage of Biden's Solar Subsidies. They Can't Connect to a Power Grid.
Washington Free Beacon ^ | 5/6/23 | Colin Anderson

Posted on 05/07/2023 6:19:43 AM PDT by CFW

Shortly after President Joe Biden offered tax credits to anyone buying solar panels, a Colorado homeowner named Stacie took out loans to install $30,000 worth of panels on her roof. Nearly six months later, however, those panels sat unused, generating no power.

The problem seemed to have a simple fix: Stacie's energy provider merely needed to hook the panels up to its power grid—but there's no room.

Increased demand driven by Biden's green subsidies, combined with inadequate power grid capacity, has left thousands of green energy projects like Stacie's without power, rendering them useless. "When you put out $30,000, you sign loans, and don't have a working product, it's frustrating," Stacie told a local reporter. "There is no communication."

Stacie's predicament reflects a significant snag in Biden's green energy revolution. While the hundreds of billions of dollars in green energy spending allocated through the Inflation Reduction Act led to a flood of new wind and solar projects, America's antiquated power grid is not ready to accommodate them. Nearly 1,300 gigawatts worth of green energy projects, for example, are waiting to be connected to power, according to a recent Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory report. The country's entire electric grid has an installed power capacity of just 1,250 gigawatts.

“That would require a battery installation”

I don’t recall the fine details, but out here in California, the Assy. took away the incentive to put solar on your roof this past April UNLESS you add on the 15 - 20k battery wall. Now you are in the 40k neighborhood for the total system.

Wonder how much of a kick-back Biden gets...

The big guy gets 10%.

Mine were installed and activated last year.
Got a HELL of a tax return a few weeks ago.
Panels are working great, and the net metering is making my bill almost nonexistent.

Most people do not know that when you install the battery backup system, many grids have the right to take your power from the batteries into the grid to offset shortages in other areas.

“Batteries are the tool needed”

Large, all day supply hot water heaters could be made to store water heated up to 180 degrees.

Houses could be cooled below the the desired temperature to a colder temperature that is tolerable.

Cars could be charged up at 8am to 5pm work hours from panels on an commercial building or parking lot roof and the excess battery charge of the car could be used to power a house at night.

If the shtf comes about, you don’t run your EV until mid-day when batteries have come back. Problem comes about when you want to drive somewhere and you ‘drive off’ with the only battery with you. What does the PV at the house have to work with !!!

Nothing comes without compromise.

It would pay back in the 11-13 year range.

It's been decades since I ran the numbers for myself, but it seems to me that by the time the system pays for itself, you'll need new equipment. In her case, she said $30,000 initially.

My neighbor heated his swimming pool with solar panels, but about once every month or so I'd see the solar repair people parked in front of his house. I doubt that he ever broke even.

Pilots landing at LAX have been having problems for YEARS with afternoon sun/solar panels blinding them.

What state / zip code are you in.

I’m in same boat, FL 33523

Stuck with only the meter/account charge all year round.

Do you get to carry over your month to month credit ?

“many grids have the right to take your power from the batteries into the grid “

I control my inverters, not the utility. I hear that some states might very well dictate what you say. I’m in Florida.

“Large, all day supply hot water heaters could be made to store water heated up to 180 degrees.”

We do this. Have a rooftop copper piped collector that in summer will bring water temps in 80 gallon tank to 160 F.

Be careful thou, we have a plumbed in mixing valve to limit the hot distributed to the house to 125F. It will mix in the cold with the extremely hot water to a safer temp. Have well water here too.

On the electric heaters that are no plumbed to roof collector, we heat the water when the pv production has filled the batteries. aka 11 or noon ish and beyond.

“The big guy gets 10%.”

Only on occasion.

The Biden family normally rents out Hunter because Joe’s estate will be subject to the death tax. IRS tax vultures await Joe’s passing.

Once Fred Trump got old, he had his son Donald earn most income so the IRS would not get to tax that income twice.

A now old DJT is having his children work and earn income while he smacks around golf balls (and fights off lawsuits).

I’m in Colorado. 80221.
The seller said that once the net metering thing hits a certain point this summer, my electric bill will be gone, replaced with the monthly bill for the panels.
I’m almost there. My last electric bill was less than $80. The one before that was $150.

It is your example of fundamental ignorance of such which drives the ‘renewable energy’ scam.

I suggest that you use that tool in front of you to rectify said ignorance.

You don’t buy solar panels to pass on electricity to others. You buy solar to use the electricity for yourself.
Exactly. All those folks who spent beaucoup bucks on an elaborate solar setup thinking, "Now the electric company will pay me!" have discovered that the local utility has rearranged their fee schedule in such a way that they're back to paying . . . for pumping their extra juice back onto the grid. If you want to go solar, get yourself a self-contained system with no interface to the local grid.

Make the batteries in the cars, directly charge from daytime PV energy.
Make household power from those same EV batteries at night.

The car is at work during the day.

“loans”

If you need to borrow, your solar economics are inferior to those who can self-finance (especially when banks were paying <1% interest).

“Renewable Energy” has been a scam from the get-go. We get solicitors in our neighborhood from time to time trying to get us to “join our neighbors” and install solar. I inform them that they are trespassing and need to leave our property immediately.
