'Eco-Friendly' King Charles to Reuse Historic Garments for Coronation
AsiaOne ^ | MAY 01, 2023

Britain's King Charles, who has spent a lifetime campaigning for sustainability and against a throwaway economy, will wear clothing previously worn by his predecessors, including his mother and grandfather, for his coronation next week.

Charles, 74, will be crowned at London’s Westminster Abbey on May 6, during a grand ceremony at which he will wear or be handed regalia charged with religious and historical symbolism.

Many of those items, such as the crowns and sceptres, date back centuries, but Charles will also be re-using some garments that have appeared at coronations since 1821 "in the interests of sustainability and efficiency", Buckingham Palace said on Monday (May 1).

I love all of this but he’s definitely virtue signaling. God bless him, he’s a true believer in climate change but I can’t get mad at him because he’s so polite about it. Shaking my head, though.

HE is that-—

BUT IIRC-—using those garments has been a tradition for a very LONG time.

Virtue signaling, probably. Reuse of royal robes and regalia is common in English coronations. Usually with some refurbishment or personal alterations, but it supports the history and continuity of the monarchy (I’m not a royalist, but something of a historical buff).
If any are interested, this fellow has had a series of videos covering elements of the regalia and ceremony of the coronation. He discusses much of the history and traditions which go back to the Confessor. He also has videos visiting historical churches and their architecture which I find interesting.

Not much different than his wearing of kilts. He can skip wearing her underwear.

LOL. Does this dope really think he’s going to score brownie points for this nonsense? He is so out of touch it went from being not funny to being hysterically funny. Every time I read an article like this, I envision this entitled dope sitting with two or three spin doctors calculating how he can get the best press from everything. All the while the massive, dark shadow of his past from the 80s and early 90s looms over him. But he doesn’t have a clue. The public will love him because he recycles garments.

Used clothes and he probably won’t serve any of the new wine, just the old stuff.

They probably figure that the times call for the most traditional pomp and ceremony possible to resurrect the royal identity among the people.

I’m pretty sure the reason to use/wear those items is in the interest of tradition-not “in the interests of sustainability and efficiency”-but nice pandering, Charlie...

The royal clowns should either permanently turn off the electricity in their castle or sit down and shut up.

No airplane flights.

No more vehicle travel as well.

Or just shut their mouths.

And anointing oil from olive trees on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, and the Stone of Scone, which was once thought to have Biblical origin.
