Feinstein has vowed to return to Washington, but what happens if she doesn’t?

WASHINGTON — The race to replace retiring Sen. Dianne Feinstein is well underway, but as California’s senior senator has missed nearly 60 votes over the past two months, some liberal Democrats are calling for her to resign.

Feinstein, who is recovering from shingles, said she plans to serve out her term and has received the support of party leadership. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer said this week that he hoped she would return soon. Feinstein released a statement saying she plans to return to Washington when her doctors say it is safe for her to travel.

With a narrowly divided Senate, questions have arisen about the options for Democrats if Feinstein does not return to the U.S. Capitol but does not resign.

The 89-year-old, the oldest member of the Senate, has been facing questions in recent years about her cognitive abilities and fitness for the post. Her supporters argue that these questions are ageist and sexist, pointing to male senators who served into their twilight without such criticism.

The LA Times is nothing more than a rabid left wing propaganda tool. It ceased being a “newspaper” long ago. It is struggling to survive in print, reducing its printed pages in size and number. It will fold soon, and with it the leftist clown who owns it. No one will miss it.

Never let a crisis go to waste.

Republicans: 49 members
Democrats: 48 members
Independents: 3 members

Republicans should block everything including judicial appointments. Make the Democrats negotiate for every item no matter how big or small. Show no mercy.

“Republicans should block everything including judicial appointments. “

Unfortunately, Lindsey Graham has proven to be a reliable squish and is voting on Feinstein’s behalf in her absence. I don’t think there has been a judicial nominee that he has voted against no matter how progressive an activist they may be, and no matter how shallow their legal knowledge and understanding of the Constitution.

Diane, you were fantastic as Mayor of San Francisco, right after the Harvey Milk murders by that cop. You were strong, steady and helped to bring normalcy back to the Bay Area at that time.

But, Ms Feinstein, that was a very long time ago. Your services to the community have been rendered.
In other words, you need another hobby other than “being a politician”.
Leave now, with your head held high.
Now, before the Progressive Democrats toss you out unceremoniously, like a crumpled old Dixie Cup.

She needs to take all the time she needs to recover. She risks relapse if she rushes
her healing. Nature heals in her own good time. Slow and steady wins the race.

Nope. She needs to keep her seat and continue to recover. The longer the better. It keeps the worst judges off the court for now.

Term limits would solve this.
That’s why you “The People” will never see them.
Where us turtle?

I moved to LA in 1964. LA Times wasn’t much of a newspaper THEN.

WHY is any other Senator allowed to vote for Diane???

Shouldn’t that just be a NOT VOTING call?

I know Term Limits will never happen, but what about age limits? I would suggest 80 years old max. Maybe Trump could make some kind of deal with Congress once back in office. Gawd knows there are enough examples past and present for examples to warrant an age limit.

Feinstein has vowed to return to Washington, but what happens if she doesn’t?

What happened when Chernenko vowed to return to Moscow, but didn't?

If Di-Fi does not return (highly probable, IMO), there will be someone younger and worse in her place.

HTH.
