The Florida House passed a bill on Friday with a 76-34 vote that would permit the state leader to run for the presidency without stepping down from their current position.
The bill’s approval comes only a few days after it was passed in the state Senate by a vote of 28 to 12. The bill is now on its way to Governor Ron DeSantis’ desk for approval.
The timing of the bill’s approval and Governor DeSantis’ potential presidential announcement adds to the uniqueness of the situation.

Ha! Perfectly describes DeSanctus ads.
But, your continued Pres Trump smears/drive by swipes, are noted.
“So why are people so upset that RDS will enter the race? Just in case.”
I’m not upset. The more the merrier. What I think the issue is here is DeSantis is not Trump and frankly I don’t think DeSantis can do what Trump did in turning around the country. Given the circumstances as we head into 2024, let Trump fix the country and hand it to DeSantis with a clean slate in 28. I think DeSantis would be a wonderful president. Just not now.
DeSantis is a politician, probably supported by the establishment where Trump is despised by the same group. Trump learned a valuable lesson which is the establishment selected Trump’s cabinet who were pretty much against him. Some picks were decent, but most fought Trump every step of the way.
We loved Mattis and he screwed Trump. We loved Barr, same thing, and Bolton. The list goes on and on. DeSantis has some major battles to fight at home. He should fix those, throw his support behind Trump, because Trump will need it and hope that is enough to win Trump’s endorsement in 28.
Everything else is just noise and the media creating a war with people choosing sides. On a personal note, I know Trump, worked for him, met him on several occasions, even grew up a block away from the Trump Construction Company in Brooklyn. His family did a lot for the neighborhood and I am grateful for it. Trump as always been a braggart, whiner and blowhard. However, he is loyal to you until you screw him over. And once you do, his verbal wrath as we all know is legendary.
“Can we agree that if Trump wins the nomination and loses in 2024 that all these cultists leave FR forever?”
What do you mean by that? Was Trump so bad as a President that we want him nowhere near the White House ever again? If I recall correctly, on FR most of us said the same thing. “Best President since Reagan.” What changed?
I’ll throw another one out there. From 2000/2008 I remember most people here saying, “Rove, you incredible bastard!” Bolton was awesome, Mattis was the sh*t, Barr will take care of justice and on and on.
Trump is a whiny, braggart and blowhard. Been that way for 50 years. Everyone in NY knew it and the media and Trump’s enemies used it against him. Democrats were willing to throw away every accomplishment Trump has as President because he tweeted mean things.
I want Trump as President again. I don’t give a crap about his behavior. I give a crap about not having to pay 5 bucks for gas, paying someone higher mortgage rates because I am fiscally responsible, not having to support wars which mean nothing to us, not having to support illegal aliens streaming across the border, not going to jail because I hurt somebody’s feelings. And the list goes on.
I see another purge coming on FR like in ‘08, ‘12, and ‘16
Some will self purge, and others will get so obnoxious that they’ll get Zotted
It’s already getting mighty ugly here
Re: 104 - Sadly, I believe you are correct.
Once the Republican nominee is determined, FReepers really have two choices - 1) support that person, or 2) don’t support and don’t trash the nominee on FR. I don’t believe that President Trump will run as an independent if he does not get the nomination, so don’t consider that an option.
For myself, who wins as nominee I will support.
This is the most asinine argument Trump and his supporters make. Desantis supported Trump while he was in Congress throughout the Russiagate mess, before Trump ever endorsed him. He also supported Trump as Governor through impeachment 1 and 2 and in the 2020 election. Just how long is Desantis supposed to be indebted to Trump for one endorsement? Especially after the crap Trump pulled on Desantis right before the 2022 election? Any debt Desantis owed Trump for 2018 is long repaid.
Re: 106 - Good post and I believe you hit the nail on the head. DeSantis doesn’t owe President Trump anything at this point.
Very few states actually have a law requiring officeholders to resign to run for higher office. Florida was a bit of an anomaly in that regard.
Only 5 others, from what I’ve read
Florida just went blue guess what’s next to come down the pike from their.
Thanks.
But Trump refuses to lift one finger to fix election integrity, and he is enraged DeSantis fixed it in Florida.
Where in the world do you get the idea Florida went blue? They just had the biggest red wave in the country in the last election.
I am not saying this is a bad thing. I would not do it but I am a "two term" supporter and I am leaning further and further toward it should be only two political offices in a life time.
Professional politicians are nothing but trouble.
If we have to go to "pull a name out of the hat congratulations John/Jane Q Public you are now a Representative" then so be it. It would be better then what we have.
Agreed. Though I wonder how much of the feud is real? Or set up to confuse the left.
It’s not a fued ... it takes two ...
Meh
How can Trump fix election integrity? What authority does he have any more than you as a private citizen?
not at all.this was expected RINO Desantis is real POS
Where in the world do you get the idea Florida went blue?
They just gave DeSantis a free ticket to bypass state LAW that state if you run for another office while holding office you must step down.
Laws are NOT a hint it’s an order
Blue Florida
