Republican Mega-Donor John Catsimatidis Withdraws DeSantis Support
Breitbart ^ | 27 Apr 2023 | HANNAH BLEAU

Posted on 04/28/2023 2:01:38 PM PDT by conservative98

Another Republican mega-donor has publicly stated he will not support Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis should he choose to run for president in 2024.

John Catsimatidis, CEO of Gristedes, knocked DeSantis’s communication skills, telling the Washington Examiner that DeSantis does not even return his phone calls.

“Why would I support somebody to become president of the United States that doesn’t return phone calls?” he asked.

“Why do people contribute to people?” he asked. “They want to have access and to be able to have a discussion.”

He added that he has “never in 30 years of doing politics asked anybody for anything or a personal favor. Never.”

According to the Examiner, Catsimatidis in 2018 donated $15,000 to the DeSantis state campaign but gave even more, $600,000, to the Trump Victory fund the year after and into 2020.

Catsimatidis is hardly the only GOP mega donor voicing concerns about backing DeSantis, as many are reportedly having second thoughts about supporting him, should he run.

However, for Catsimatidis, the issue is very much rooted in the lack of communication.

“Everybody answers my phone calls. I’ve never had a situation like [this],” he said, adding that he does not want to give more funds to “somebody that doesn’t return phone calls,” even if he is a good governor.

“I would rule out supporting him at this point,” Catsimatidis said, according to the Examiner. “If you’re putting it in the same context of Donald Trump vs. Ron DeSantis, I would pick Donald Trump in a second.”

“If DeSantis wins the primary, he will easily lose to the cheating Democrats in the general election..”

Unless the Democrats (or I should say the Deep State) let him win - which would be a distinct possibility. Unlike Trump, they have nothing to fear from DeSantis.

The thing that first set off my radar was when seemingly coordinated messaging began to appear about how much of a rising star DeSantis was - almost immediately after Trump had left office. The usual suspects couldn’t move past Trump quickly enough.

In early 2021 DeSantis was enthusiastically being touted as the next Trump - with no acknowledgement or concern for the fact that we had just had an election stolen. That was the tell, that we were seeing a coordinated effort among Establishment Republicans to take back the party from Trump and the deplorables, and had decided on their fake MAGA candidate of choice.

Doing the right thing for the wrong reason.

Sounds like a pissy and self-centered ahole. “He doesn’t call me back.” THAT’s his reason for not supporting a candidate? How about a candidate’s policies?

[And your another one who is naive enough to think that Trump didn’t win in 2020 and that the Democrats didn’t cheat.

It’s that naive point of view that will cause DeSantis to lose in 2024 if he is the nominee. ]

Trump lost in 2020. It wasn’t close and it was, frankly, consistent with 2016. He did a little better in the popular vote, increasing his number by 0.4%, but still did worse than Romney. Now, was it unfair that the Democrats expanded vote-by-mail and gathered blank ballots by bribing black voters who wouldn’t otherwise have voted? Sure. But those were the rules, and he did nothing to quash them while he was president.

Not only did Trump do nothing to upend the new rules, he did nothing to adapt to them. Instead, he spent $100m on rallies that were little more than monuments to his own ego. Romney ran those same rallies in 2012, and got a bigger % of the popular vote than Trump. The thing with Trump is he got lucky in 2016, and mistook his extraordinary luck for skill. If the $100m he spent on rallies had gone to vote harvesting, he might have won in 2020. His incessant need to feed his fragile ego with those exorbitant rallies may have cost him the election.

He’s addicted to rallies - by mounting them, he gets to feel like a Roman emperor/consul being feted by adoring citizens. Is there any indication that he is now more strategic, directing his funds towards the kind of low-key vote-gathering efforts that won Hillary the popular vote in 2016 and Biden both the popular and electoral vote in 2020? No. Because Trump *never* learns from mistakes. He is convinced of his own perfection.

I’m OK with a narcissistic liar who wins elections - it’s not as if the Democrats are running Jimmy Stewart-type straight arrows for president. The problem is that Trump doesn’t just lose by himself - he drags other offices down with him.

Very Astute Assessment .
Hillary was just way more Hated and Toxic that Trump in 2016.
She drive people like my ancient Panhandle Great Aunt who hand not voted in decades to the Polls just to stop HER .
Unfortunately , for Trump he has reached Hillary Toxic levels .
Hate is a key motivator for Voters Now .

That whole post is disingenuous crap. DeSantis is as robotic and contrived as Mike Pence. It is so obvious he is GOPE owned an operated and out to fool you into putting those neocon clowns back in the driver’s seat.

He and his wife come off as total scripted phonies.

You make my point. That's Oz in PA and Walker in GA, two of the swing states where massive cheating occurred in 2020.

You, DeSantis and many DeSantis supporters don't think that Democrat cheating in swing states is a problem.

As I said, with that kind of naive thinking, if DeSantis is the nominee, he will not win AZ, GA, NV, PA, WI and MI.

What? Trump gained 12.3 million votes.

It does not matter to the people who run the country whether DeSantis, Biden, or Newsom is elected in 2024.

None of the things DeSantis is known for are core interests of our rulers. The things that ARE core interests - foreign wars on behalf of alien peoples, a global market in labor, usury as the engine of consumption, and forced diversity with non-enforcement of the Civil Rights Act when it comes to whites - DeSantis is as bad as the others.

“But on the other hand... why should he expect a return call? Because he donates a lot of money? Seems like that’s part of the bigger problem.”

depending upon what is expected, indeed ...

but when one donates YUGE amounts of money to a politician, one does expect SOMETHING in return, even it it’s just a reserved seat at a rally, quick handshake, photograph, and/or an intimate cocktail party with luminaries prior to the rally ...

we donated big-time in order to receive much of that at Trump’s last campaign rally before covid shut everything down ... it was a real blast, and we were prepared to donate that much anyway, but weaseled our way onto a whale list and waited until we “got something for our money” besides JUST supporting Trump ...

If Fox News had proof to the contrary, it wouldn’t have shelled out $800m to Dominion. Trump lied about believing the election was stolen. He did it for the usual Trump reasons - it gave him a bloody shirt to wave for the next election. If he had admitted to losing fair and square, GOP voters would have written him off as a loser. By claiming that he won for real, Trump stayed politically viable for 2024. But ultimately, it was just a ploy.

I don’t really care that he lied. Wouldn’t be the first time, and won’t be the last, for him or any other politician. I’ll vote for him in the general if he’s the nominee. But the fact that he’s unpopular and a slow learner will likely doom the GOP to lose the White House and perhaps both houses if he’s the Republican standard bearer.

You are ignoring the Big Elephant in the room .
Trump is so disliked he drives People who rarely vote to the polls to stop him .
Trump hate factor and Trump base is dying off .
Trust me I know , I work for the Gop in FL . The base is dying off real quick .
Desantis has none of that baggage and is a Young guy with nice smart wife little kids and a self made man.
from a humble which background expands our base .
Trump base is not expanding .

The cheating can not be solved by Trump or Desantis . We need a less
toxic person than Trump.
The Demonrats knew Hillary was toxic that is why they rigged the primaries for Obama.
Maggie H of the NY Slimes just orchestrated with Trump media team to peddle a False story about a Fake Desantis Donor tells me how toxic Trump is .
The NY Slimes knows the real poll numbers .
The Slimes do not want Desantis .

That's one scenario. DeSantis is a s bad as the Democrat, and thus there won't be any significant cheating.

My point is that if DeSantis is MAGA, they will cheat to beat him. And DeSantis and almost every one of his supporters are naive enough to think that, that will never happen.

Yes, you believe Biden got 81 million legitimate votes.

BTW, all four Republican congressman on Long Island, where I live, are pro Trump. They all won in 2023.

That looks like Trump is liked.
