Horowitz: Will Trump and GOP establishment throw another solid red-state Senate seat to a RINO?
Blaze Media ^ | 4/26/23 | Daniel Horowitz

There’s a reason why you can count the number of conservatives in the Senate on your hand, as most GOP senators make House Republicans look like the founding fathers. Even in the reddest states where Democrats are nothing but a token opposition, the GOP establishment immediately anoints the next-in-line corporatist with the most name recognition. We have therefore failed to make any progress in several decades, since the Bob Dole days, in pushing the Senate to the right.

Many thought that Trump would even the playing field for our candidates, but so far, thanks to a slew of terrible endorsements recommended by Lindsey Graham, the opposite has proven true. Will he continue his RINO endorsement streak in West Virginia?

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice was a Democrat for the first 66 years of his life. On every issue that actually matters, he still is a Democrat. However, in 2017, Justice formally changed parties because the Democrat brand turned to dirt in the Mountain State. Unfortunately, rather than becoming a zealous adherent to the principles of freedom established in the party platform, as one would expect from a sincere convert to a cause, Justice has not changed on policy one iota.

Jim Justice is a bigger COVID fascist than Joe Biden and has shown no signs of changing. He locked down his state, imposed mask mandates, and blocked every effort to fight the vaccine mandates with more zealousness than many Democrat governors. As late as September 2022, after Biden conceded the pandemic was over, Justice lambasted him from the left, calling it “crazyland.”

“I don't think the pandemic's over,” Justice said. “I think we can live with this pandemic

And IMHO, we’ll have an 80 year old after only one term because McConnell wants to stop Mooney.

Do Daniel Horowitz and the little punk governor from Florida have a viable replacement for Justice?

If not..... Blah....blah....blah.

Alex Mooney is a great candidate. He took out a rino last year. The problem people have with him is that he’s not a native West Virginian. He served in the Maryland legislature.

Are you joking or do you have no clue? There are myriad better options than Justice in WVa.

Great.

Elect one of them.

Manchin needs to be eliminated from the Senate.

My daughter lives in WV-—they LOVE that nut “Justice” down there. He’s a fake, but he does bring some humor FWW. WV is 70% red and chances are Justice would win. Most don’t like Manchin down there...but who knows.

Horowitz didn’t do a very good job of research.
Justice was a Republican prior to running for governor back in 2015. He was GOP only switched to Rat to run for governor. See the newspaper article.

https://www.wvgazettemail.com/news/politics/greenbrier-owner-jim-justice-enters-wv-governor-s-race/article_56c3d490-f82b-5a08-bf92-0c8a14ee52ef.html

All in all, Justice hasn’t been a bad governor. I attribute 50% of his success to a Republican legislature that got more Republican every year. He switched back to GOP right after Trump won. He claims to be pals with Trump. Both are resort owners so maybe so. (Justice owns the Greenbriar.) I am convinced he was a COVID fascist because he has all the high comorbidity factors for having a serious case. If Trump was leveraged on COVID due to being a germophobe double so with Justice. My problem with Justice is the fact he was very unethical in his business practices. He would often stiff contractors and such for payment of services particularly if the payment was a balloon payment. His mines were routinely hit with fines which he would routinely fight in court rather than just pay. When the mine is the only major employer in the town or county in WV & Kentucky, state governments were reluctant to shut it down.

Because of all of that I was shocked he actually won back in 2015. Because of his past health issues a lot of people are surprised he’s running for the Senate.

I’ll be voting for Mooney, but I am annoyed that I will be voting for a professional politician, which Mooney obviously is. Came here because he couldn’t have much of a political career in Maryland. Yes, he’s a carpetbagger! I voted for him over McKinley because McKinley went ‘native’ in DC. Forgot who his constituents were, he thought it was the Beltway! I think Justice will win, so I’ll be voting for him over Manchin if Manchin indeed runs.

I do agree with Horowitz on this being another example where Trump backs a ‘pal’ over a conservative.

Repeal the 17th Amendment!

Repeal the 17th Amendment!
That way you won't have to bother with your convoluted explanations for your decisions.

You'd rather have a state legislator appoint their good ol boy/sockpuppet without you bothering with decisions.

What were you saying about Trump?

I do agree with Horowitz on this being another example where Trump backs a ‘pal’ over a conservative.
Your wish for repealing the 17th would do exactly that.

Repeal the 17th Amendment!
Who's the fool hypocrite in this picture?

Letting criminals from the legislature appoint their fellow criminals to Washington is an absurd idea, but these fools persist with it.

He’s the governor of the state. Needless to say, he’s got the inside track at the nomination no matter what the establishment or Trump might want.

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice was a Democrat for the first 66 years of his life.

That doesn't appear to be accurate...at all.

That obviously doesn't make him a conservative but it is good to get basic facts straight.

I’ll go with the Founding Fathers on this one!

I’m sorry you find my explanations convoluted.
I am sorry you couldn’t keep up.

https://thehill.com/opinion/campaign/404337-is-it-time-to-repeal-the-17th-amendment/

The 17th Amendment to our constitution changed the way Senators are chosen to serve in the Congress. As ratified in the original constitution, Senators were chosen by state legislatures to serve for a term of six years, while Representatives in the House were to be chosen by direct vote of the people. This is the principle behind “Bicameralism” – two branches of the legislative body answering to two separate constituencies, the Senate to the elected state governments and the House directly to the people. The 17th Amendment changed this to provide for Senators being elected by the popular vote.

So in Red States that have huge Dem voting blocs in the cities, the liberals in the cities can vote for the Democrat. IE Georgia, Wisconsin, Arizona, Montana.
