Tucker Carlson has been trending on Twitter this week, after being let go by Fox News on Monday.
If things go the way Elon Musk is planning, Carlson’s show would be trending every day on Twitter, because he has the potential to be the first megastar of Twitter’s new platform.
Carlson averaged about 3 million viewers per episode of “Tucker Carlson Tonight” weeknights on Fox News. Over the past year, the show’s lowest rating was 2 million viewers. The highest was 6 million.
The show’s popularity has not dwindled over the past year, and luckily for Carlson, he was ousted in his prime.
Many Twitter users were speculating that Carlson will want to go to a platform that won’t censor him, and articles have speculated that Carlson was being censored by Fox News.
Even Musk himself commented on Carlson’s ability to move to the platform.
Musk added to the speculation by stating that he wouldn’t apply any censorship unless it was required by law.
At the suggestion that Twitter should hire Carlson, Musk replied, “[W]e don’t hire anyone, but simply enable content creators to prosper on this platform without applying censorship that goes beyond the law.”

It would get people to follow Twitter. I for one don’t.
Also it’s an apolitical platform.
When you finish with them, give me a call!!
Bad link but you fixed.. or someone did in the thread.. but this is incredibly significant.. and a coup for Elon Musk.. I never knew his content creation/monetization policy.. which is brilliant. And what a way to spread the news by tacking it to Tucker’s viral post.. thanks
Yeah, we’ll see. Musk doesn’t shy away from things he believes in. Spending billions because he believes we should colonize Mars and deliver independent internet via Starlink (he’ll make billions on his holdings when he takes SpaceX public). He spent $44 billion - which he admits was an impulsive move at the price - just to make Twitter “apolitical” as you called it. A public town square for anyone. And then he opened up the books to let independent journalists see exactly how Twitter was previously being steered like cattle by government operatives.
And now he’s threatening Google with “TruthAI”. Everyone in tech is on the AI thing right now, but as Musk said (on Tucker’s show!) it’s all in how it’s programmed. If it is programmed to find and deliver results that are sourced from governments and interest groups then AI will just be another form of propaganda but if it is programmed to analyze sources of information and rank their credibility it could be liberating - which is what the Internet promised us 20 years ago but is no longer so.
Why wouldn’t he then also go after the likes of Youtube and other services to stream content, TV productions, podcasts etc? It’s what he said he wanted, to make Twitter “X” - the everything app. Payments, services, streaming, blogging, chatting, messaging etc.
So how does he get an income on Twitter?

The twitter format makes it easy to go viral. I regularly share amusing twitter urls to people via phone text.
It would be better FOR CNN if they signed up Tucker... But I’m OK with Twitter. Guess when Tucker starts producing shows again I’ll have to sign up for twitter...
