Republican Voters Across Pennsylvania Are Much Less Wedded to Trump Than You Think

DOYLESTOWN, Pennsylvania—Richard Tems was about as loyal a Trump supporter as you can get.

The Bucks County businessman and GOP committeeman has fiercely defended former President Donald Trump in editorials, interviews with reporters, and conversations with anyone within earshot. He voted for Trump twice and believed he was the right president at the right time.

However, eight years after the New York businessman and entertainer came down the escalator in Trump Tower in June 2015, Tems said he would move on in next year’s Pennsylvania primary. He plans to vote instead for Governor Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., for the Republican nomination for president.

“Why? Well, because DeSantis has done a brilliant job in Florida. He took a tiny little victory the first time, and he turned that state dark red by implementing good conservative policies. He brought in the right kind of people, and he turned that state from being purple, or occasionally blue, to very red,” Tems said.

Tems said what Trump did brilliantly was recognize the public was unhappy with the governing class. But “DeSantis knows that to win, you have to build coalitions, and that is what he did,” Tems said. “He spent four years governing conservatively and building a coalition that not only gave him a win last November, it had coattails for all Republican candidates.”

By the time the dust cleared in Florida last year, there were no statewide elected Democrats left standing for the first time in modern politics. DeSantis won reelection over former Gov. Charlie Crist, D-Fla., by a whopping 19 percentage points, even carrying Democratic Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties.

“Mastriano had no real chance to win, but he was our candidate for governor.

Dr. Oz had no real chance to win, but he was our candidate for the Senate.”

Amen brother.. OZ was by far the worst, off brand, candidate I have ever seen run for statewide office as an R in my nearly 40 years of living in PA..No one, and I mean NO ONE, I spoke to had any excitement for this yokel... Basically best you got was... Well at least he’s not Fetterman.. yet, they spent 100,000,000 trying to shine that turd, and way too many folks here listened to floppy lipped idiots out of NYC/DC telling them he was a winner. The PUSH of OZ not only guaranteed PA senate seat was lost, but money spent trying to sell him was diverted from races where it could have actually made a difference, costing many close races.

Mastriano never stood a chance as well, never seen a more horribly run campaign... “Oh, I will only speak to friendly media”.... What? The party establishment didn’t want him, were never going to give him anything but lip service, and he didn’t do anything to help himself either.

And not only did Mastriano, and the REPUBLICAN LEGISLATURE give us mail in voting... but Mastriano’s initial response to covid was to argue that HIPPA laws should be suspended because Covid was just too dangerous.. he was not a man who’s first impulse was LIBERTY...

And that tells everyone what they need to know about your perspective. Many thanks.

We need to be working together on getting the Marxists out of the White House. We can't afford this pointless infighting.

I was at a Mastriano event last summer, which took place in a small town. We waited and waited for him. It turned out he was trying to find a back door to get in. The media was out front, and he didn’t want to talk to them. He did that every where.

Sorry, but my “negative impulses” haven’t blinded me to anything.. I have stated many times that Desantis is being used by the establishment/neverTrumpers/globalists and even the left propping him up to try to foil Trump. So not sure where that is coming from.

Desantis has shown he’s an establishment politician, he’s got the same issues ALL establishment politicians do, he’s beholden to the money men... and the money men are, like it or not, are folks who think like Cheney/Bush/Rove/McCain/et al. I provided you a perfect example of this... he went off script with what they say, and was bitch slapped back in line and he happily cowtowed in less than 24 hours.

Desantis isn’t going to take on the deep or administrative state, he’s not going to fight the system, because he’s owned by it. He’s clearly not ready for prime time at the national level. The more he is being pushed and seen the lower he is polling, and that’s not because of Trump, that’s because of Desantis. It’s abundantly clear he’s not being authentic, and that isn’t going to sell to a national audience.. especially in a race where you have Trump in play.

No I don’t live in Florida, though what relevance you believe that has in speaking of a national election and the chances Desantis has is beyond me. Mason-Dixon poll just this month showed Desantis losing to Trump in Florida, and losing by more than the margin of error.

Desantis is free to run, but the math isn’t there for him to win, not with Trump in the race.

Desantis’ story isn’t going to win the day in the primaries, no matter how much the left/establishment/nevertrumpers try to push it.

This is politics, Bannon’s CPAC speech provided the argument for Trump in 2024... I suggest you go watch it if you haven’t, and if you think Desantis is going to provide a narrative that is going to counter and beat that when put before the republican voters, then I think you are the one being too emotionally attached.

If I saw a path for Desantis, I’d happily admit to it, I don’t... there is just no math that exists that puts Desantis as the nominee (or anyone else for that matter) with Trump in the race.

The election will be decided by a few battleground states like PA. Who’s got the best chance to win in such states?

Whoever organizes the best ballot harvesting effort. Period.

This Pennsylvanian voted for Trump RELUCTANTLY in 2016. This time around I am fully on board with Trump and will gladly vote for him again! He is who he is. I may not always like his style, and he sure isn’t perfect, but he gets the job done!

"Desantis has shown he’s an establishment politician"

Please provide one or two examples of any executive action that Ron DeSantis has taken that support this allegation. I am betting you cannot. In which case, my previous statements continue to stand.

The rest of your diatribe is simply hollow speculation.

DeSantis is currently the most effective conservative governor currently in office in the entire United States. Yet all you do is focus on your imaginary points against him.

What are your loyalties, exactly? Blind support of Donald Trump, or saving this nation from ruin? They do not automatically coincide.

Let’s see...

Other than Dobbs, Trump’s SCOTUS picks have largely been unimpressive, most recently in letting Biden’s student loan giveaway to stand. And Dobbs, of course, has been a get out the vote bonanza for the Dems. Good ruling though.

Don’t care about Jerusalem. I do care about 2A rights which Trump stepped on.

He’s siding with Disney, Bud Light, blames pro-lifers for the midterm debacle, praises Gavin Newsom, endorsed Stacey Abrams, throws gay parties at his personal residence, and spends most of his efforts attacking the most successful conservative governor in the country.

And, yes, he spent like a drunk Democrat.

Desantis states war in ukraine is just a territorial dispute.

less than 24 hours later, he’s cowtowed back into the establishment narrative and walks it back.

This is politics folks, Desantis is an establishment politician he needs the money, so when push comes to shove, he’ll do what the money men tell him every single time.

If you believe otherwise you are wearing blinders.

Where do my loyalties lay? To myself, my family and my country, and the establishment political class has not put America first, not either party, in many decades.

Like it or not, Desantis is captive to the money men who are selling this country out and don’t care because they get to pad their pockets with the status flow.

If you think he is going to go to washing to truly change it, I think you are being very dishonest with yourself.

You keep repeating this over and over, but that doesn't make it true. That's what lefties do when they 'debate'. We need to do better.

And you still have yet to provide a single example of proof supporting this allegation.

“Other than Dobbs”?

Yes ending national invented murder on demand...

Ignored Federal Court Shift
Ignored Tax and Regulatory Burden reductions
Ingored record low unemployment

You have a bad case of TDS going on there.

Trump is a flaws human being, but if you think he and his policies were “liberal” you definitely have a minority view on liberal.

DeSantis also has a good chance in Pennsylvania. His father and grandfather are from the Pittsburgh area—Aliquippa. His grandfather worked in a steel mill there. I think DeSantis still has family there.

His blue-collar roots include him working his way through college and his military service. His parents are graduates of Youngstown State in neighboring Ohio. These are salt of the earth type people. One of his relatives is a Catholic priest. Another is a Catholic nun. This means people of southern European descent who still populate these areas will see DeSantis as one of them.

Trump has no such connections.

Things have certainly changed in Pennsylvania since I moved here sixty years ago.

Bill Scranton was the Governor at that time.

Been here since mid 80s...

PA has always had a democratic voter advantage, but reality is many of those voters are not leftists.. they are legacy democrats who are democrats because their parents and grandparents were back when they worked for the unions.

Trump was able to get a LOT of them to vote for him in 16, and 20.. this state was flat out stolen in 2020. PA is winnable by Republicans statewide, but not with the old school establishment GOP candidates... this isn’t 1980s or even the 2000s.

You don’t give those democrats a REASON to vote republican they will either stay home or just vote defacto democrat... they aren’t going to vote for the republican with candidates like OZ who’s main argument by those pushing him, was “well at least he’s not the other guy”.. that’s not going to get it done, not any more, if it ever did.

Desantis is a non starter in PA, he won’t win the primary here, he’ll lose to Trump by 10 - 15 points minimally, if he hasn’t already bowed out by the time PA votes in its primary.

I am saying it because it’s true.

He’s suffering from the same terminal illness that killed every GOP Hopeful in 2016. They were captive to the GOP money men, so they couldn’t say a thing about the Border, Nafta, Illegals, etc etc etc.. because the Big GOP donors wanted and liked all those things... there were what 16 other candidates, and not a one of them would touch any of those subjects, leaving Trump the lane he used to win, because those things were NOT ALLOWED TO BE SPOKEN ABOUT OR YOU LOSE OUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT.

Desantis just showed to the whole world with his Ukraine being a “territorial war” and then almost instantaneous walk back that he’s in the same boat. He is not going to do anything about the status quo , because he’s owned by it lock stock and barrel.

If he wasn’t, then why would he walk back such an innocuous comment in less than a day?

Need to open your eyes, Desantis is beholden to the establishment... and the more he’s seen the lower he polls, because its blatantly obvious he’s not being authentic.

You can deny it all you like, self denial is everyone’s right, but Desantis is being pushed by the establishment/nevertrump/globalist/democrats as a great white hope to harm Trump... the major groups pushing him really don’t care about him at all, he’s just the Beto of this cycle.. they are desperate for anyone to try to stop Trump and for a few brief seconds it looked like he might be able to be that guy, but reality has set in... They will jump the the next guy in a heartbeat if someone else shows up they think will accomplish their goal.

Desantis is free to run, but he’s clearly captive to the Chenyey et al money men, and its quite obvious.

"I am saying it because it’s true."

True to you, obviously. Those of us who are less, shall we say, 'prejudiced', disagree. A prejudice that apparently prevents you from seeing all the good things he has done here in Florida, things that other 'conservative' governors hardly even give mention to, much less take action on.

Time will tell. And if you're correct, I'll be the first to admit it. If you're wrong, I wager you won't do the same.

Who the heck can accomplish the above in four years while being impeached twice and investigated by Obama's Weaponized Agencies?
