INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana — Former President Donald Trump told Breitbart News that he believes if just 5 percent of teachers in schools nationwide were armed that school shootings would be a thing of the past.
Asked during an exclusive interview with Breitbart News backstage after his speech to the annual National Rifle Association (NRA) gathering here earlier this month what is causing the mass shootings in the country, Trump said the nation’s mental health crisis — fueled by drugs that are flowing across the border — is the main culprit.
“More than anything else it’s mental health and a lot of it is caused by drugs — the drugs are flowing in,” Trump told Breitbart News. “We had it down to about a 32-year-low at the border. I heard today they’re 10 times higher than just three years ago. Can you imagine that? But I think more than anything else it’s mental health, by far. And a lot of that mental health is caused by drugs.”
In his speech to the NRA gathering, Trump called for a tax credit to allow teachers who are qualified to get firearms so they can protect vulnerable students at schools nationwide. Trump told Breitbart News that if just 5 percent of the nation’s teachers — many of whom are military or law enforcement veterans familiar with firearms — then school shootings would end.

“So you have teachers that are military vets — and I’m talking about people that know how to handle firearms, because that’s a talent,” Trump said. “Police officers. But you have teachers that are very good with firearms. You don’t need many. I would say 5 percent — that would be a lot. You could never hire that many security guards. They have every bit as much talent in many cases — they’re champion shooters and everything else. If they qualify at a very high level, I would let them take arms in with them. They also have the added asset of loving the students. They love the students. So if they qualify I would have them take arms in with them. In addition, I would have armed security at the front doors et cetera, but you would stop it. If people thought that randomly the teachers have guns, they wouldn’t go into the schools. You let everyone know that a lot of teachers are going to have guns — some people say 15 percent but I would say 5 percent is enough. If some wacko thinks that some of these teachers they’re going to walk into have guns and they’re expert and really know how to use them, you’re not going to have a problem anymore. They’re not going to have to use them.”
Except that there are tranny freaks inside the schools. One even threatened to shoot children.
President Trump is right about that. I am guessing that these cowardly shooters pick schools because schools are soft targets.
a strategic question would be what if a school has 10 teachers but only 1 teacher is armed. a shooter enters the school and begins to shoot in a different area from the armed teacher/]’s class. should the armed teacher leave his or her class to confront the shooter in a different area?
i figure that taking an instant class poll is not an option because there would be no time to take an anonymous vote and several students would probably choose to abstain.
Armed AND trained. There is a big difference.
But I dont think this is the answer. Teachers dont like guns, they won’t practice, we can’t make them want to carry.

Exactly
The Covenant shooting seemed a good model for a response, with teachers (some armed) locking down. Victims were just unlucky enough to be outside safe areas. An armed resource officer or two, perhaps in communication with classrooms could then sweep the hallways to end the threat.
Let’s put up a sign in front of congress that says. “GUN FREE ZONE”.
Agreed. We need practical, real-world solutions, and this is the most obvious. The leftist way of magical thinking and voodoo, like putting a talisman on the front door, won’t work.
My bother is a teacher and supports being armed.
They did active shooter training that included a scenario with airsoft guns. He was chosen to be the armed teacher to show how bad it would be.
He outshot the cops and made a mockery of the run and hide strategy.
If I’m not mistaken Congress is “gun free” with the exception of the Capital Hill police. How about defunding the Capital Hill police?
I seem to recall that Ted Kennedy’s bodyguard was stopped and frisked. He was a big guy in a big overcoat, and he carried an arsenal of varied weapons. He had to turn in his weapons or remain outside. If he was my personal bodyguard, I’d see no reason to carry a weapon either.
All teachers do not have to be armed and trained.
In some Missouri school districts, volunteer faculty members have been armed for over 10 years.
The school entrances have been hardened and signs posted that anyone intending to do harm will be met with deadly force.
No not all do. But if someone is going to carry, I want them trained. I’ve spent years at a range and seen enough untrained people handle a firearm. We don’t need that lackadaisical behavior with firearms in schools. And frankly speaking, if one of these people is going to go into a school and shoot the place up, with the intention of not living though it, it’s moot point.
These folks are vetted and trained.
Sorry, I didn’t include in previous comments the article explaining the process.

Of course you can. Make proficiency at arms and carrying of same a condition of employment.
