Multiple people were trapped Tuesday after a parking garage collapsed in Lower Manhattan, officials said.
Shocking footage from the scene shows multiple cars on top of the concave roof as a woman get can be heard screaming, “Get out!”
A total of three people were hurt, two minor and one more serious but not critical, according to fire officials, but that number was expected to increase.

“We can get an extra $1,000 a day if I use the roof for parking. I’ll get employee of the month for sure now!”
I’d be interested in when the parking deck was made
Same here.
Vermont liberal lunatics were touting the heavy weight of EVs as a benefit that ‘helped keep them on the road’ during our brutal winters. Ice doesn’t care how much you weigh.
I doubt she could drag her own weight any distance, fire or no fire.
Before I retired some years ago, I parked in a 5 level parking garage. A few years before I retired, public parking was moved from the top floor to the ground floor and long term parking was reduced so that just a few cars would need to park on the top level. I am guessing criminal activity and gross incompetence is involved with this collapse...
OK, say I’m the owner of the red car/van in the upper right-hand corner of the picture say before the collapse. How long will it take the staff to fetch me my car and how many cars will have to be moved before they can get it out?
Here’s the Japanese approach. The first part is bikes, the second cars.

She is there in case a midget needs a carry out.
They turn apartment buildings into parking garages now ?
There's something to be said for rescue personnel who can fit into smaller confined spaces. Since child labor laws preclude using teenage and pre-teen boys, women might be the next best fit.
A conversation from this past Monday “Hey honey, I found this great parking lot, it’s cheap and it’s near a bunch of great restaurants. It’ll be perfect for our new Range Rover”
Wow… before 4:30 pm.
Florida has sinkholes. New York City has “stinkholes”.
That is not a crazy idea. Hubby is big handed and I have very small paws. When he is working on a project he often calls for help when space is tight. Good things/small package sometimes.
“Someone mentioned in the remarks section about the weight of EVs.”
The suitcase sized batteries add thousands of pounds to what would have once been considered a compact car.
A new Tesla Model X weighs 1,200 pounds more than an all steel 2000 BMW 740i.
As more and more people get EVs, the weight would have never been imagined by parking garage designers. Think of 20 - 30 Evs in an old parking garage.
We will see more of this.
They will all be rendered OBSOLETE in short order.
ND-—WHERE will materials come from to rebuild them?
Steel frame NEEDS fossil fuels to create girders.
Heavy lift helicopters can do the job-—but EXPENSIVE.
There WAS a simple solution: Mayor Adams should have issued an executive order repealing the laws of gravity for NYC.
But he blew it.
Maybe he will issue one now, too late for these victims.
And on the bright side, the victims will be sure democrat votes for the next century.
My first thought! Yup, 400 lbs batteries?
That structure should never have been used (and/or approved) for vehicle parking/storage.
thx...
