maybe Fox lawyers thought it was good to settle without a trial? A trial would have aired out a lot of things. Maybe Fox management thought a trial would hurt Fox’s public image?

It is my understanding the trial was going to be in Manhattan. If that's correct, it didn't matter what the facts were, Fox was going to lose.
If they couldn't force a change of venue, they were never going to win in Manhattan.
