No, the minimum wage isn’t driving out WalMart, and if it were, good riddance. If you can’t pay FT, adult employees anything above the Chicago minimum wage, then as a taxpayer, I don’t want to continue paying for your workers’ shortfall between what you pay them and what it costs to live in Chicago.

But let me be clear: Walmart already pays as much as $19/hour to start, even where the minimum wage is the federal minimum. (It can be as low as $14/hr... but even that, which is based on much cheaper places to live ... is close to teh Chicago minimum wage.)

No, I imagine the losses are due to merchandise losses: the whole nation is experiencing a shoplifting craze. One stolen $3,000 computer can cost the same as 200 minimum-wage hours.

Does this strawman employer of yours force people to work for a wage you deem unacceptable?

How many employees do you have on your payroll?

actually. federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour.
most state minimum wages are higher.
here in Arizona it is $12 per hour
