Not done now.
Once government takes over the charging stations it will probably want to be able to check up on you when you use them. How fast were you going?
Where have you been?
How far have you gone?
Maybe install a “update”?
I don’t think the car companies will have any objections to changing the design due to consumer privacy concerns.

Including the ability to remotely update the firmware of a device is inherently risky. It’s sacrificing security on the alter of convenience...

It enables all manner of nefarious things...

The fbi has issued their warning. Then they go back to prosecuting people on Trumps team. No further investigations to come.

No as in just like a cell phone connection. Manufacctures uses these connections for diagnostic and black-box stuff. Lock your keys in the car?Call the manufacture support line and they can remotely unlock your door.

Easy solution: get a power only USB cable. Less than ten bucks.

“I don’t think its got a data connection.”

The recharging process opens a highway for unprotected messages between your vehicle and a charging station, potentially giving viruses and hackers unfettered access to your car’s computer networks through a variety of protocols. These risks are compounded by the increasing use of public Level 3 charging stations that can be physically accessed by cyber criminals and or infected by other unprotected EVs.

That also means access to your phone, internet through devices like GPS and personal information or even passwords. Just when you thought it was safe.

The interface between the vehicle and charger is very simplified. Just signals that tells the vehicle what type (current and voltage) of juice the charger is supplying. No personal data. You may have to provide some financial information (credit card, charging code) to charger, same as at any retail outlet, but that is not part of the charger interface. Your only knows that its thirsty.

I know that. Our local country Ford dealer had to install a cellular booster so they could prep cars for customer delivery.

;-)

I was just responding to his post about connecting in general.

Why I have no smart TV’s
I worry the cable may be hacked in the TV’s I have and our conversations may be picked up by the speakers in the TV
Of course they listen and record everything we say when our phones are in range
I used to think my dad was crazy when he didn’t trust the government or his employer. I realize he was right. Problem he was a democrat to the core.

Those propeller-heads at the FBI are a little slow on the uptake.

The FBI already has access to all domestic communications (through “sharing” with NSA as well as foreign intelligence services).

They are upset that other folks have joined the party.
