There is the family legend that the initial owner after the Battle of Great Swagemore Flat was a Roman Consul named Quincius Pompei. He was said to be amiable and not harsh in his treatment of slaves.
Line up for my money. There’s a possibility that one ancestor owned one slave sometime around the Revolution. I guess I’m guilty.
