LA, Chicago, Other Major “Blue Cities” Suffer the Biggest Population Loss in the U.S.A. in 2022: Other Blue State Counties Are Close Behind
THe LID ^ | 03/31/2023 | Warner Todd Huston

Democrat residents are fleeing two of the nation’s largest counties — Cook County, home to Chicago, Illinois, and L.A. County, home to Los Angeles, California — in record numbers. Last year, those locals led the nation in population shrinkage.

Of the two, Los Angeles County led the nation by losing the most citizens to outbound migration by losing a whopping 90,704 citizens, according to U.S. Census Bureau records.

Right behind LA was Cook County, the home of the Windy City, which lost 68,314 people from July 2021 to July of last year.

Despite the loss, the two counties were still the most populous in America, according to Just the News:

Los Angeles County was still the most populous county in the U.S. That was followed by Cook County in Illinois at 5,109,292, which declined by 68,314 from the prior year. Rounding out the top five were Harris County, Texas (4,780,913); Maricopa County, Arizona (4,551,524); and San Diego County, California (3,276,208).

Eight of the top 10 most populous counties in the U.S. were located in the South and West. The two exceptions were Cook County in Illinois and Kings County [Brooklyn] in New York.

“Reflecting longstanding regional population shifts, the nation’s most populous counties are increasingly located in the South and West,” the bureau reported. “In 2022, 63 of the country’s 100 most populous counties were located in the South and West, up from 61 in the prior year.”

Unsurprisingly, the top ten counties for population growth were all in red states, while all the worst counties were in blue states.

The 10 counties in the U.S. that gained the most people were located in three states: Texas, Arizona and Florida. Maricopa County in Arizona topped the growth list, adding 56,831 people in 2022. It was followed by Harris County, Texas (added 45,626); Collin County, Texas (44,246); Denton County, Texas (33,424); and Polk County, Florida (32,225).

The biggest losers were Los Angeles County, California (-90,704); Cook County, Illinois (-68,314); Queens County, New York (-50,112); Kings County, New York (-46,970); and Bronx County, New York (-41,143).

This happens because liberal states are all… to a location… failed states, while the red states are thriving and growing.

Once again, we see that Democrats destroy everything they touch.

Yup they are moving to less blue areas and will help turn them dem or rino by getting on school boards, taking local govt jobs, letting kids run amuck, and they bring all sorts of baggage with them.

So they move into Republican areas and vote Democrat Lite, then Medium and finally after a decade, Heavy. Then, then they say “WTF?” And it’s time to move to another non-democratic area which starts the whole process over….

While not very neighborly I wonder if it is possible to enact local laws that forbid new arrivals from holding public office for say 10 years. It would not restrict their right to vote but it would give them time to acclimate to the local politics. If the newcomers find things distasteful politically, they can move or wait it out until they are eligible to hold office.

... just thinking ...

Same here. The new citizens are either refugees or “carriers”, and they are moving here in droves unfortunately. Shunning may be our only defense against the “carriers”.

Just remember as you flee, you’re a Refugee, not a Missionary.

Brilliant Idea!!!! However, newcomers from Blue areas should loose right to vote in state and local elections for 5 years. Give them time to “adjust”. They would keep federal voting rights just limit state and local.

If traffic is an indicator no one is leaving NYC.

As one person put it , they have soiled their nest and are looking for a new location to soil the next
No recognition that their ideals have destroyed where the were and why they are leaving.
Like an addict thinking that a change of location will fix their problems

None of this changes the fact that Americans move considerably less than they did even 30 years ago and that many of these folks leaving are people of color or even white Democrats. This migration blog pimp posts should be taken with a grain of salt.

My completely unscientific traffic study of New York City consists of watching the Fox exterior camera from their building. It apparently views one of the main streets in New York (I don’t care which one and I’m not gonna look it up). The significant shift(less) in traffic since COVID lockdowns began. I watch that camera the same time everyday and traffic is by no means the same as it was prior to COVID lockdown. This week I just did a random count and traffic is down roughly 30% from pre COVID lockdowns.

Whether that is a change in people’s schedule or some other factor there isn’t by no means the same level of traffic as it used to be.

Dear Mr Huston
May I bring to your attention that Chicago & other blue cities losing population is not really a positive for normal states & cities.
All that is happening is, these immigrants are only turning Red states purple, then Blue.
You know, like the illegal ‘immigrants’ coming over the southern border busily making America ‘more like home’.

The camera on Fox News showing traffic is on 6th Avenue looking north towards Central Park. It is also called Avenue of the Americas. It is more or less west of Rockefeller Center. There are lots of skyscrapers with big open space plazas in front built mostly before 1970. And you are right. Traffic has not rebounded in the city. Lot of those skyscrapers have empty offices. I go to NYC often and lived there as recent as 2020. Traffic in and out of the city through the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels is also lighter. Crime on the other hand is way up. Filth is way up. This is a cleaner part of the city as the managers of the buildings keep the plazas cleaned up.
