We have had grand juries since we were British colonies. Today only the US and Liberia use grand juries to screen criminal indictments. It would take a Constitutional amendment to abolish them here (5th amendment) but only about half of the states require them for non-federal cases.

In the Bragg/Trump case, the local population voted 80% against Trump, and yet this case could change the whole nation by tainting the 2024 election. If a criminal trial results, Trump's lawyers could ask for a change of venue, but who knows what kind of judge would preside.

You and I agree that Bragg has summoned a kangaroo court. Trump could appeal, but the appeal might not be over until after 2024.

DEVELOPING: Judge Authorizes Manhattan DA Bragg to Make Trump Indictment Public (reuters)

Bragg can do so now if he wants to, but that might help Trump's lawyers.

If there was such a thing as justice anymore, Bragg would be arrested for false arrest within minutes of Trump being arrested and released
