Former President Donald Trump took aim at potential Republican primary foe Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis during a recent campaign event, with much of the criticism garnering little enthusiasm from those in attendance.
During his Saturday campaign event in Waco, Texas, on Saturday, Trump argued that DeSantis had little chance of becoming Florida's governor without the former president's endorsement, with Trump breaking into an impersonation of DeSantis allegedly begging him for his support in the state's 2018 Republican primary.
"So, he came, and he really wanted [my endorsement]. I said, ‘You can’t win, can you? How do you – can [you] win?'" Trump said, recalling the alleged conversation with DeSantis. "‘Sir, if you endorse me, I’ll win. Please, please, sir, endorse me,'" Trump continued as he acted out a crying, begging voice.

I just don't know what to say to people who deny this reality anymore.
Independent voters despise Donald Trump. And a lot of people who voted for him twice have peeled off too.
Wishing it otherwise does not make it so.
>> They were listening, but nice try
Exactly. I watched the entirety of the rally, and it was awesome.
Trump gave an explanation of his support & loyalty for DeSantis and also the lack of loyalty from DeSantis
DeSantis is foolishly pissing on his FL image.
Is there any room in that hole in the sand? What kind of logic is that? Let’s ignore reality because for now it doesn’t matter whose pocket DeSantis is in because Florida is moving in the right direction. You’d be right if Ron were running for a leadership role in Florida again. For the Nation the bigger picture is essential to focus on.
I'm glad I finally met a eGOP type that is above the fray. /s
I learned from the DeSantis supporters and neocons here. This thread is fake news from Rupert. Par for the course.
If the term neverTrumper bothers you, don't be that. I didn't make you that. It's voluntary.
Quit with the BS rationalizations.
If there is one thing I've learned, no matter how much you try to justify or rationalize what Donald Trump says or does, he will come along later and saw the branch on which you are perched right out from underneath you
If you listened to the audio DeSantis went on a 30s-1 minute attack on Bragg. The porn star bit was literally just a one line throwaway joke. Don’t rely on FreeRepublic titles to make up your mind.
Yessiree. That’s why people lined up 12 hrs ahead for his rally.
Your own advice is on the money. All the wishing the Trump haters, globalists and “face in the trough RINO” can do won’t change a thing. Only election fraud decided the 2020 election and that is the important issue the Uniparty is trying to obscure with all of the fake drama & hype.
Which is why he’s lost every major contest he’s been in charge of since 2016!
“EVEN” is not an endorsement. That is saying Fla is a great state, even Crist didn’t screw up Florida. Get real and stop gaslighting.
Rupert Murdoch's NY Post? The guy who is so fair and balanced that he wants to make candidate Trump a "non-person"? That's Trump's favorite outlet?
RE: That tired argument is over 7 years old, and its predictions have never been born out. For every person he loses with these attacks, he gains two.
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I have to admit you have been right. I always have argued gently and compassionately that he should stop the harsh attacks and “can’t we, can’t we just all get along?”
He said of inviting former friends the Clintons to his wedding “I had a lot of complex large projects coming up and I needed to make friends, not enemies.”
Then he insulted all the contenders at the 16 person GOP nominee debate.
I’ve been wrong all this time but wonder if it’s time to rethink it.
>> I’ll bite. What’s the lesson to be learned here? How to lose like !Jeb? <<
How to have a shred of dignity so as to not embolden the Democrats and the media and the social networks to not be able to get away with anything they can dream up?
Sorry, but Trump just needs to stop this utter nonsense. It is unseemly. It is unbecoming. And, it is utterly unnecessary.
I don’t care what the Trump clean up crew says, DeSantis is a great Republican who has done a lot of good for both Florida and for the Country. Trump does not have to try and stand on DeSantis’ shoulders to try and make himself look taller.
Trump: Stop it. If you were running neck-and-neck I could understand some jockeying, but you’re like 50 points ahead and you still are needlessly hurling personal invectives. It’s very off-putting to me.
You must be talking about those Free and Fair elections we've all witnessed of late.
Judging from your post on FReeRepublic your own dignity meter needs overhauled.
Do you admire Mitt Romney?
Enquiring minds want to know. After all he has dignity & is mealy mouthed, pivots smartly for every audience.
DeSantis is doing himself no favors and many of his backers are cooling.
I have no respect for his self serving behavior. He is not putting America or Americans first, he is trying to leverage some high profile actions taken in Florida to advance his political career.
Why won’t DeSantis endorse Trump?
Like wut? DeSantis is literally one of the most conservative prominent Republicans today.
Calling Trump who sleeps with tons of women (not that theres anything wrong with that) is at best tepid on religion waves around the rainbow flag and collaborated and appointed every deepstater he could find, the ‘true conservative’ while calling desantis a faux conservative is laughably 1984 upside down. Is this really what conservatism has degenerated to?
How exactly is Trump ‘more conservative’ than DeSantis? Other than a vague ‘sticking it to the system’ which by the way DeSantis is also doing. And DeSantis is doing it out of consistent philosophical grounds and part of coherent strategy. Not simply lashing out and everyone who he feels has personally wronged him and coincidentally end up fighting against literally everybody except his personal fanclub.
The irony of tying that into the rest of your post is off the charts. Maybe you are confusing Trump with Madam 'why ain't I 50 points ahead'.
Trump needs to stop calling names - especially to other Republicans. it’s childish.
