In 17 days, millions of retirees will receive the first round of April's Social Security Administration retirement payments, worth up to $4,555.
The first round, for those born between the 1st and 11th of a month, will be released on Wednesday, April 12. Three disbursements are released to retirees each month, but each person only receives one payment that coincides with the 10-day block of the month in which they were born, according to the SSA's schedule.
...
The amount of money each recipient gets depends on the recipient's age at retirement. The highest payment is worth $4,555 per month, and it goes to people who retired at 70. Recipients who retired at 67 receive a maximum check of $3,627, and anyone who retired at 62 gets up to $2,572, according to the SSA.
The second round of payments will be released on April 19, and it will be for those born between the 11th and 20th of a month. The final payment for April will be disbursed on April 26 and will be for people born between the 21st and 31st of a month.
...
The current age of retirement is 67, but people can take early retirement at 62 or delay retirement until 70. People could see a decrease in their payments if Congress does not determine how the program will be funded by 2037. Discussions on the future of Social Security have been ongoing in Congress for years, and a pair of bipartisan senators recently proposed raising the retirement age to 70.
Why is this news?
….and…….?
The current age of retirement is 67, but people can take early retirement at 62 or delay retirement until 70.
Age 70 retirement only changes the calculation of the amount of the pmt.
Is this somehow different than the regular monthly disbursement? (gotta admit I did NOT click on the link)
LOL
“ Why is this news?”

It’s not. It’s CLICKBAIT.
What’s it come to after taxes?
Yeah. That seems to make sense.
What’s the point? Don’t people already know when they receive their SS payments and how much it will be?
Just like every other month….
Just a reminder I get to go to work in the morning as I have every year for the past 30 years, faithfully paying into the scheme so that others would get theirs that the feds spent years ago. I remember very clearly and very fondly my grandfather telling me he was glad I worked every day so his checks would keep coming and to keep it up. Now, the only proposals out there include an increase in retirement age, which means that instead of 20 more years in the game, I have 25 more, and a proposal to entirely screw Gen X, my generation, out of the money we’ve paid in for the last 30 years. What a scam!

Don't ask me, I'm confused as well
Not enough!!!!!!!!!
In other news, this April will mark the first month this year that has a total of 30 days.
Yeah. Guess it got them some clicks. I did eventually click just to see if there was anything else. Took a quick look but didn’t see additional info. Oh well.
Yes, but the real scam and scandal is they automatically take your money from you for this “retirement”. The gov figures you can’t take care of yourself properly and won’t be responsible, so they will withhold that income for you.
Then, you still get taxed on it when you “retire” as income, even though they took that money from you 30-odd years ago when value was different! And you don’t get back the value, only the absolute amount!
And, you can’t take it with you….gov wins if you die before retirement, or you die too soon….no inheritance except to the gov!
There are millions of people who paid into the system, and who will NEVER get a single SS check.
Millions of those who paid, will have died before they even get a single check. Perhaps a love one (wife, kids) may get the benefit that one paid for, but, many other millions will have paid with not a single check coming to them or any family member. The government depends on people dying early so that the money will be there for all others, even to those who never contributed a single penny into the system, like illegal aliens.
I just started receiving SS this year. I turned 62 last year. my understanding is this is for people who have been on SS longer than a year.
Yep
