A U.S. base in Syria’s Al Omar region came under attack Friday after the U.S. conducted retaliatory airstrikes on an Iran-backed group, Reuters reported, citing a security source and local media.
The Department of Defense (DOD) confirmed late Thursday that U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) conducted precision airstrikes against facilities in Syria used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Iran’s paramilitary group. It remains unclear whether Friday’s attack was related to the retaliatory U.S. strike or conducted by the same group or incurred any casualties, according to Reuters.
The attack Friday took place at 11 a.m., a security source told Reuters.
“We will always take all necessary measures to defend our people and will always respond at a time and place of our choosing,” CENTCOM Commander Gen. Erik Kurilla stated after the retaliatory U.S. strikes on Iran-backed militia. “We are postured for scalable options in the face of any additional Iranian attacks.”
A drone struck a maintenance facility at a base in northeast Syria used jointly by the American military and local partner forces, killing one American contractor and wounding five U.S. servicemembers as well as another contractor, DOD saidin a statement. The U.S. intelligence community assessed the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) originated in Iran.
President Joe Biden authorized “proportionate” action in response to Thursday’s attack as well as a series of recent attacks against the U.S. and coalition partners in the area, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said in the statement.
Biden’s response was intended to minimize casualties and clamp down on potential for escalation, the statement said.
Iran-backed groups, including the IRCG, have conducted offensive actions against the U.S. 78 times since 2021, Kurilla said, according to Reuters.
“The Iran of today is exponentially more militarily capable than it was even five years ago … it has the largest and most diverse missile arsenal in the Middle East … and the largest and most capable UAV force,” Kurilla told a congressional committee Thursday.
The roughly 900 U.S. forces have continued to strike at ISIS forces persisting in Syria, usually in concert with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)
CENTCOM did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
The transgendered barracks are ok though, right? I’d hate to see any of our wokeness warriors have a bad day?
Try an Arc Light raid
Trump ordered Milley to get us out of Syria, but instead of a Republic, something else is ruling us. Eisenhower was aware of it, but here we are.
*IF* they had the equipment there, TPQ-36 counter-battery RADAR can fix the launch location in seconds.

I think with a few more names you would have the UN
“A U.S. base in Syria’s Al Omar region...”
Think I found the problem here...
As SDF installed its spheres of influence in the region as far as the Euphrates River from the eastern side, the al-Omar field is now known as the largest US military base in Syria. The field in Deir Ezzor’s eastern countryside is the largest oil field in Syria, with a pre-Syrian revolution production of about 30,000 barrels per day.

Trump did not remove our military base in Al-Tanf though, he kept that while removing the rest.
Send in the B-52s...
“Proportionate” is the excuse of cowards and traitors...
Biden would send over the band to perform "Love Shack" for them.
I am not convinced they obeyed his orders to remove the rest. How many are in Syria now?

You crack me up sometimes. It's quite unexpected and I thank you for it.
I had F&F on this morning for ten minutes at breakfast. One of the guys was trying to explain why we were there, and why it was important.
After give minutes of him writing on his TV screen, it still made no sense. He was trying to explain how we were there to protect Jordan and Israel and how Iran was trying to get closer to Israel.
It made no sense. Israel can take care of itself. And while I have always felt Jordan was the sanest country in that area...I think they can take care of themselves against ISIS.
ISIS has been around for a long time. We cannot eradicate them with all of the might of the US Department of Defense? Something is terribly wrong if that is the case.

Look at a map ppl.
The SDF and Iranian militias tried several times to occupy the al-omar oil fields east of the Euphrates. Their resupply was repeatedly ambushed as it crossed thru ISIS territory. They do not have the forces to do so. ISIS was using the oil fields and facilities for funding. Both of these factors necessitated US occupying the region east of the Euphrates as being supplied from the Jordan in the south the US is able to be supplied without crossing ISIS areas. Both the SDF and Russians approved of the occupation insofar as it denied ISIS the oil revenue thereby assisting SDF resisting ISIS.
US should get the freak out of Syria.
