Hell, I’ve long since set my feet through the door to geezerdom. Nothing like traveling when the roads are empty and traffic is minimal.
Of course my wife and I are always WELL ARMED and still train regularly to keep our edges.
They were towing a boat, people go fishing at 4 a.m.

If the like to fish, that is normal.
If the want to be in Key West at sunrise, an early start is a good thing.

As a senior myself, I will sometimes pull an all nighter to get to my destination when traveling long distance. I don't expect to get ambushed because I did not tuck myself in at 9PM with a Lawrence Welk show playing in the background. I never even watched Lawrence Welk, even when I was younger.
We are 71 years old and, when we go on road trips, we normally leave the house at 4 AM. The roads are quiet and somewhat empty. We get to our destination with plenty of daylight.
But, at 71, maybe we are still middle age and not yet seniors?
Lehigh Acres is up by Ft. Myers. Maybe a four hour drive to Key West.
What time do you drive your truck and boat to the water for a day or few of fishing? On the water by 5 AM is the rule.

When I drove across country, I did it in the dead of night to avoid traffic
Maybe going to the hospital, maybe work at the hospital, maybe they could not sleep, maybe that is when you get up when you go to sleep at 7:00pm.

I saw a boat on a trailer in the footage. They were probably on the way to fish or coming back from a fishing trip. I’m 80 and still do this at any hour of the day or night. I hope this explanation answers your question. The only difference is that when we do this I am heavily armed.
