Don’t rent out property unless you’re willing to squat on the squatter.

How do hotels handle this? You’d think that problem would be much more prevalent.

Laws for short term rentals and periods over 30 days usually have different laws.

They also have a cop on retainer who comes over and busts heads.

Most likely it’s due to time they “lived” there.

If it’s only a couple days or a couple weeks the laws don’t apply. But after 1 month or 2 months it’s an issue. So hotels don’t have that issue as they make you pay up front and they can’t afford a 1 month or 2 month stay.

Hotel doors have electronic locks. IF you leave after 11am on your day of checkout your key no longer opens the door. They have a pass key that opens all doors.

Happened to me in Mexico. We asked for a late checkout for our room. They said no problem. We got back at 11:30 and the door would not open with our card key.
