DeSantis: Ukraine Aid Not 'Vital' National Interest

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis says protecting Ukraine against Russia's invasion is not one of America's "vital national interests" in the face of more pressing issues closer to home.

In a statement broadcast on Monday's "Tucker Carlson Tonight," DeSantis, a potential 2024 GOP presidential candidate, countered President Joe Biden's oft-repeated vow that the United States' support of Kyiv is "unwavering" and will continue for as long as needed.

"While the U.S. has many vital national interests — securing our borders, addressing the crisis of readiness within our military, achieving energy security and independence, and checking the economic, cultural, and military power of the Chinese Communist Party — becoming further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia is not one of them," DeSantis said in the statement.

He’s 100% right.
It’s none of our business.

DeSantis: Ukraine Aid Not ‘Vital’ National Interest

Reminds one of the mistake we made in 1950 where we left Korea out of our ‘Vital’ areas of National Interest. That resulted in the Korean War.

Of course, Putin’s invasion of Ukraine is a text book copy of Hitler’s takeover of Czechoslovakia. That lead to WWII.

Too bad too many ‘real’ conservatives have no memory of history. They say they want to avoid war but they avoid taking the actions that would prevent another one.

Yes, that form of corruption should also be on the list, perhaps on the the top.

Performing government and business in the shadows compromises all.

One might argue that for Korea, we were fighting against Communism in favor of Democracy. In Ukraine, we are fighting what? defending what?

In Korea we were stopping an invasion by Communists. What are we defending in Ukraine? The leadership bans religious institutions, free speech, they stifle the Democratic process, and they keep their ruling class in power through corruption and deceit, mostly on our dime.

I’m all for defending Democracy, but there is so much evidence to say this is not defending Democracy, but rather defending the kleptocracy that support the seedier elements of the world order.

It depends on what the motive of continuing the conflict is really about, doesn’t it?

If we were serious about not feeding the beast, the war would never have started, or, starting it, it would have been over post haste.

There is no profit in a cure, only continuing application of a remedy the promises, but does not deliver, a total solution.

And what has acting like the world’s police force gotten us? Lots of dead and maimed American kids and an economy that’s barely limping along because we expend our treasure in overseas folly after overseas folly. America is our vital interest, period. Let the rest of the world defend themselves.

Relying on historical precedent, I expect that the coming financial crash will be followed quickly by a War started to camoflage the reason for the financial crash.

Just like the inflationary pressure was caused by Ukraine, and not on our ridiculous government spending and restrictions on energy. Now, with the banks crashing due to the rise in interest rates, the new bogeyman will be the old bogeyman, and it will all be blamed on the War, which of course was to save Democracy from those evil Russians.

After all, we have always been at war with East Asia.

Billions to maintain the façade, and not a farthing for the US borders, or the American People.

If nothing else, this Ukrainian falderol has shown NATO to be the paper tiger that we all knew it was. It has not goal, no ability, and no resolve to solve issues on their own front doorstep.

Of course, they rely on the corruption centered on Ukraine as much as or more than the US elite. So they also do not want a rapid cure, but rather a slow hospice care solution to the war.

This Ukraine war is already costing us plenty. Wars are very expensive.

The inflation that plagued the 1970s had roots in our 1965 decision to wage a hot war in Vietnam.

The Ukraine war is no different. We can thank Biden’s GOP allies for the inflation that we are experiencing, they are helping him throw gas on that fire.

In order for THIS government, BIDEN’S goverment, to put any money on disasters, troubles or strike the recipients have to be qualified as to how much they have given BIDEN, Democrats and the DNC, either in real corrupt bribe money OR by actual vote cheating. It’s just that simple. Our President, a major segment of its agencies and all the hangers-on in and around DC exist solely on corruption, money and crime.

IF this corrupt government had take even a small portion of what they’re giving that corrupt piano-playing dick player has gotten we could have stemmed the invasion on our Southern border which directly affects us, immeasurably. Screw Ukraine. Screw this government.

Maybe the US support for Ukraine will harm the US more than Russia.

DeSantis rattles establishment GOP after saying US interest in Ukraine-Russia war is not ‘vital’

Several Republicans have repeatedly issued support for Ukraine amid its war with Russia, drawing a divide within the GOP:

Kyle Morris | Fox News: RON DESANTIS Published March 15, 2023 10:02am EDT

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ comments about U.S. support for Ukraine during its war with Russia have rattled the cages of establishment Republicans.

DeSantis’ remarks, which came amid increasing speculation that he will enter the 2024 race for the White House, came in response to a series of questions from Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson to 2024 GOP candidates or hopefuls about their stance on the ongoing war between the two countries.

“While the U.S. has many vital national interests… becoming further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia is not one of them,” DeSantis told Carlson.

Noting that “peace” should be the objective in the war, the popular Sunshine State governor insisted the U.S. “should not provide assistance that could require the deployment of American troops or enable Ukraine to engage in offensive operations beyond its borders,” adding that providing F-16s and long-range missiles would be “off the table.”

DeSantis also noted that American “citizens are also entitled to know how the billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars are being utilized in Ukraine” and knocked regime change policy as being “popular among the D.C. foreign policy interventionists,” suggesting Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s successor “would likely be even more ruthless.”

We are defending democracy in Ukraine. Anyone with a sense of history can see that Putin is trying to reestablish the old Soviet Union. He won’t stop on his own until Ukraine, Poland, etc., are once again part of the Soviet Union.

You are in effect repeating the old arguments of the Charles Lindberg/America First movements prior to WWII which can be argued put us into the greatest war there has ever been.

Not only that, but those who make those arguments sound like Putins’ puppets.

We won the Cold War at a cost reasonable to the costs of losing that war.

I agree with DeSantis. The biggest danger to this country comes from our open border, something Biden refuses to protect. The money spent on foreign wars should go to border protection and handling the East Palestine disaster (Biden went to Ukraine but not East Palestine and has no concern for them).
