Will This Be the Last Year for Daylight Saving Time in America?

I hope so.

We have 4 timers to reset in the kitchen, and the instructions are different for each appliance.

Our on demand water heater requires 2 settings. 1 Alarm clock for each bedroom means 4 more and each one is different re how to do it.

The remote on our 2 line Comcast home phone didn’t change time even with the magic unplug trick. So it is one hour behind.

I stopped using my Accutron wrist watches due to the B$ required. My simple Casio replacement wrist watch was simple and easy.

My wife takes her several dress wrist watches and leaves them with the watch guy to change the batteries and reset each watch.

All 3 kindles and our cell phones did the reset correctly.

I have no idea what you mean. And I was a child in school in the ‘70s.

You have no obligation to follow the federal government’s mandate that you set your clocks and hour ahead.

As someone who works in IT the twice a year change is more than an annoyance. It is a costly pain in the rear particularly for 24/7 industries

Forget Time Zones and go with local sun time?

I agree. It’s not THAT big a deal. Just causes some confusion sometimes.

As when people mistake when to go to church. It has happened many times that people missed because they didn’t reset, or came too early.

“Let’s face it; changing DST is not a burning national issue.”

Since when does Congress have to have the impetus of a burning issue to pass legislation?

That was when the press would still criticize Democrats once in a while.

Why do you say that?

If you’re trying to say you don’t have to reset your personal clock or watch, you will be out of step with the rest of the world, and you will have to be aware that you’re out of step with the world, as you go about your daily activities.

You forgot Florida. So did the networks in the 2000 election because it helped Gore.

I wish they would just make it one way or the other and leave it alone. Standard time or Daylight Savings Time. One or the other.

DST was implemented during WW1 because at that time many factories still depended on sunlight for illumination. Now everything has electric lights, and there’s no need for it.

Not that I should care....I’m retired, but before that I used to hate leaving for work in the dark.

Well, with the push for fantasy renewables, maybe it will once again be relevant. 😁👍

I remember going to school in the dark. It was strange.

“I never set an alarm.” The Daily Mail interviewed a British man who was the “most traveled man in the world.” He flew many miles for many years and he never used an alarm clock. “My bladder is my alarm clock,” he said.

I HATE DST so at least the switch gives those like me some Standard time.

“The Sunshine Protection Act”? Not much egotism there. I heard on the radio this morning that it had passed unanimously last year in the Senate, but stalled in the House. I have a feeling that this is another bill that was passed without our august lawmakers reading it or even thinking much about it. I have experienced this before, when year-round DST was tried in the seventies as a way to save energy. In mid-winter, the sun rose between 8 and 9, depending on where you are in the time zone, and people didn’t like sending their children to school in the dark. I took a starlit walk to the bus stop to catch the bus at 7:10. On the flipside, during summer where I live, the sun can rise between 4 and 4:30. I would rather have the late sunset of a glorious summer evening, when I can enjoy the daylight, than an early sunrise way before I, and most people, get up. Changing the clocks yesterday was the easiest thing I did all day.

How unnatural is it really?

Only a small strip in each time zone can accurately depict the natural time. The rest of the time zone is either ahead or behind their natural time - noon being 12:00.
So all you are getting accustom to is when you start to sleep and end your sleep time.

I hope so. I have no issues with Eastern Standard Time. After all, it is based on the sun. At noon, the sun is directly above and only comes down afterwards. What could be wrong with that?

It is God’s plan.

Without time zones each place would have its own local sun time, which would be confusing for travelers. I think the railroads were the reason the time zones were created--they didn't want each stop on a line to have a different local time.

If you look at an old map of the time zones a lot of them have shifted--areas that used to be in the Central Time Zone are now in the Eastern Time Zone. That was the equivalent of having Daylight Saving Time.
