“California is reviewing all relationships between Walgreens and the state. We will not pursue business with companies that cave to right wing bullies pushing their extremist agenda or companies that put politics above the health of women and girls.”

But Newsom had no problem dealing with left wing bullies when he had California purchase $1 billion worth of COVID masks from the ChiCom bullies

Remember - WE are the (neo) marxists now.

We are ruled by central-planners, woke ideologues and globalists. We spread that ideology around the world.

And as Mao said - in the communist state, every.single.action. is a political act.

Walgreen’s is doing good. They don’t need Cauliphonya idiots. They need to pull up roots in Cauliphonya and have Gruesome Newsome kiss their ass as they are on their way out the door.

Then, when Walgreens pulls all of its stores out of the state, we can all listen with satisfaction to the complaints of vast areas of “pharmacy deserts” ...

Walgreens has already closed 17 stores in San Francisco - due to rampant and unfettered shoplifting - greatly inconveniencing people who live in the area and need prescriptions and other things from Walgreens.

I suspect Walgreens will go the way of Walmart in Portland and pull out of California. And, who could blame them?

Excerpts:

Roger Springer, a former executive with two companies that helped negotiate contracts with local and county governments ... the safest option would be to just have Walgreens out on state employee insurance plans. There are 212,000 full-time employees in the state under this program, as well as dependents. Then there is another 1.5 million under their retirement insurance insurance program CalPERS. If Walgreens can’t be used in conjunction with these, that is still likely a lot of people lost and a lot of lost revenue.”

“For Walgreens, who hasn’t been shy before about closing poorly performing stores, the sudden loss of a lot of customers could force a bunch to close due to the drop in revenue. So that means not only more lost business, but job loss in California. There are nearly 600 Walgreens stores in the state, and they all account for about 10% of all pharmacy orders in the state. If a bunch of people have to suddenly move their prescriptions out, we’re talking about an overnight shift of several percentage points in state pharmacy orders. A lot of insurance companies have agreements with Walgreens right now, so those could be severed as a result. Big shifts where people buy things don’t just happen that quick.”

“There are a lot of other ways this can go right now too don’t forget. But in terms of likelihood, California stopping state-employee programs seems probable, and you can see the fallout from that if it happens.”

I’m not sure how this greasy piece of schlit thinks he can prevent private American citizens from doing business with whomever they want.

Newsom is basically saying to Walgreens, “Break the laws in effect in 20 states, or the government of California will no longer do business with you.”

Retailers have been losing huge amounts of money AND business because of the non-prosecution of thefts less than $1,000. And the no bail laws.
To a great extent, it just makes sense to use Amazon. And to get prescriptions filled by mail.
BTW - in London the post office used to deliver the mail five times a day. Given the infrastructure that Amazon has built that would be achievable in most big cities.
And the theft problem for retailers is primarily in the big cities.
I hope Walgreens sticks by their announced position.

I wouldn't cry about those poor, poor Californians. There is no such thing as a "medicine desert" -- the population will shift to the ever-growing mail-order Rx business. Of course, that means the California towns and cities will no longer benefit from such sales in the form of property tax revenue, or income tax from Rx employees. (Sales tax the state will still get, because of "use tax" collections, but the local governments won't share in that.)

It also means that released patients won't be able to have same-day supply of post-hospital medications.

But The Powers That Be™ don't think of that, now do they?

The only change Walgreens made was stopping the mailing of abortion pills. That is now illegal in some states.

Ignore what you next President has to say about anything. He is as big an idiot as the present one.
