I’m no fan of AOC, but this idea that she helped kill the Amazon deal in NYC is a myth.

* * * *

Agree, Alberta. In fact, Amazon is a company with a reputation of bleeding the taxpayer dry with guarantees -- the so-called "corporate welfare".

You'll recall of the New York City controversy that Amazon had a national campaign "second Amazon headquarters" campaign that pitted one city government after another to see who would come up with the most "incentives" so Amazon could choose among the bidders.

But the truth is: these bidding wars often disguise the fact that a large business like Amazon already knows which one or two sites are the most attractive. So the highly publicized bidding war is an attempt to suck as much corporate welfare as possible from an already pre-selected city/state.

This kind of things has been going on for decades and a great analysis of how it works is in a very well-written book by Greg LeRoy, The Great American Jobs Scam (written actually before Amazon came into prominence).

The entire book is available FREE on-line here. A good place to get a quick overview of the subject is the Foreword.

I'll also know that Georgia, my former state of residence, has the Jobs Scam formula down pat. The unKEMPt governor and his RINO cronies in the State House have been skimming the cream off these corporate welfare schemes for a long time.

AOC is an absolute lightweight. She was and has been used for a specific purpose, one known to the puppet masters of the Left. The Squad is, for the most part, stone silent. and now they’re coming after AOC with a “credible ethics” investigation. Hell, her constituents hate her.

Omar under scrutiny for funneling money to her husband or whoever he is.

Pressley pushing for rent and eviction moratoriums while she owns Section 8 properties and never worried about rents being paid.

As for AOC being the reason for Amazon going to Nashville…..ha ha ha ha.

As poconopundit stated, Bezos knew where he was going. NYC might be a Dem stronghold, it isn’t a young, white hipster stronghold in the same way that Nashville is. I’m betting he and his executives took pleasure in watching all the different government types showing that they’d be willing to sell their kids and souls for the chance at having his campus. One he could pay for and not even have it dent in his bank account.

But I’m thinking that Bezos knew there were going to be NYC folks lining up to secure their sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, etc, no-show jobs in exchange for permit approvals, workers showing up to work, trash being collected, no protests for the gentrification that would have taken place. Nothing but people with their palms out, waiting for them to be greased.

Hell, the folks in Stonecrest, Ga were willing to rename the city, Amazon. All the while knowing that they’d be able to swindle all sorts of property owners out of their homes to get rich and completely gentrify a sizable chunk of Dekalb County, thinking that they’d maintain control.

Poconopundit alluded to the jobs scam. Well, the movie industry has too many Ga politicians in its hip pocket. Outside of some truck driving jobs and a few other peripheral jobs, the movie industry hasn’t created all that many jobs here. They’ve brought jobs here. There’s a difference in creating a job that a local can get as opposed to bringing a job with you, already filled by someone from the place your industry left behind for lower costs and taxpayer funded bribes. Bribes they have no say in.

During the 2022 primary vote, there was a question in the ballot concerning the tax for the movie industry. I don’t know if anyone that wants it. Yet I’ve heard nothing about the results. Interesting.
